Hello and welcome to the 2nd Round of the DPAD Top Movies Face/Off series! 🤠

At vote 26, we are past the 1/3rd mark of this round, and we already have 3 Star Wars movies moving ahead. Poor Wrath of Khan :(

Master and Commander all the way. Don't care how revolutionary The Matrix is to cinema history, the sheer quality of director Peter Weir's 19th century naval film is undeniable. You have powerhouse performances from both Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany as Jack Aubrey and Stephen Maturin, plus some of the most historically accurate naval battles in history. A shame we never got another film based on Patrick O'Brian's novels.

IDK how Master and Commander did in theaters, but it was an utter bomb at rental. The Hollywood Video I worked at got a shit ton of copies expecting huge demand(like 240). Never had more than a couple dozen rented at one time. So when it was time for it to come off the new movie wall and go to Genre we only needed a few copies. The rest went on sale. They were $9.99 or 3 for $25.... a few sold. Then they were $5.99... few more sold. Fast forward to our flash sale much later I had a table with M&C and CatWoman for $1 and I doubt we sold 50. Eventually we just packed up what was left (~70-100 copies) in a box and put it up in storage with the holiday decorations.

It didn't fare much in the box office either. Making only $93 million in domestic and $117 million in international markets, for a combined total of $211 million worldwide. All off a $150 million dollar budget which it didn't earn back sadly. A shame, since the cast was signed on for sequels and even director Peter Weir has said he'd love to do more. But no new film has been greenlighted and the rights have been a clusterfuck between Disney, 20th Century Fox, Miramax, Samuel Goldwyn films and Universal.

Can't help but think that Wachovski sharted on their legacy with abomination that was 4th film. Gonna give a vote to Peter Weir.

Forget the sequels, as a stand alone film The Matrix is something truly special and made audience think alot more than other films at the time.

Or.. you could vote for a boat documentary. You do, you ;)

If I'd vote, it'd be for Master and Commander. One of the adventure-movies of all times, everytime I rewatch it (at least one a year, probably more often) I yearn to be part of a ship crew and explore the world. The adventure, the comradery, the lack of modern technology, the vast open sea and its islands, everything is so good. It's a long movie and still I feel it could be double in length.

Matrix feels dated because of the cringe black leather outfits, sunglasses an the silly fighting.

Facts didn't even address any of those articles I posted in that other thread regarding evangelion and dismissed the information.

if you would like show me where I said I hate anime and evangelion. I thought it was a alright show at best. Funny I toss a bunch of facts in your face and you just sit there and deny them then again that is your name so the troll works alright.
