I haven't seen any of these, but the Gone in Sixty Seconds movie sounds interesting. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon sounds interesting too, but Nicholas Cage stealing things seems entertaining.

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon is an amazing movie and probably my favorite wuxia film. An incredible change of pace for Ang Lee, who was mainly known for doing dramas (Eat, Drink, Man, Woman; Sense and Sensibility) but proved he could do a martial arts film (albeit with his own style). Solid cast and performances from Chow Yun Fat and Michelle Yeoh, but it's Zhang Ziyi in her breakout role who steals the show.

Haven't seen Crouching Tiger in decades but youtube clips still hold up.

Blow Up is cool but I can't remember much of it other than it being a very 60s movie. Dogma is alright. Rublev is overrated just like most Tarkovsky movies.

So are Tarkovsky movies mainly artsy films then? I'm not sure if they are supposed to be religious or are just mixing themes around.

Dogma is so underrated

A grounded biblical epic 90s stoner comedy. Thats insanely difficult to pull off

While I probably prefer both Clerks and Chasing Amy, Dogma might be his magnum opus just given its scope. It's Smith's boldest creative venture by far

Kevin was never able to top it after

I can't say I've seen that one, but Solaris and Stalker are decent-length movies. Stalker is definitely worth seeing once.

Dogma is SOOOO good. Clear winner. Go watch it if you haven't seen it.

Edit: "Gone in 60 Seconds" is fun because of Cage, but honestly, it's a really, really dumb movie. It's one of those movies where the hero is so smart, reliable, manly and morally correct that you keep asking yourself: "ok, and why is he doing crimes again?"

They are artsy as hell, in a bad way. Rublev is not religious, though it explores the themes. They wouldn't have allowed a religious movie in USSR.
I knew Tarkovsky was a fraud when I watched Solaris, possibly the worst sci-fi film I've seen.

The male Mary Sue? Haven't seen many of those. I think I prefer edgier Nicholas Cage to be honest.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon wins this vote. There seemed to be more Asia based movies in the late 90s/early 2000s, I wonder what changed.

Man, how old are you people? I'm 37, but there's so many oooold movies in this competition and they're winning, too, makes me think you guys are all 50+ lol.

I think that the internet, streaming, DVD's and Bluray's allow for people to view a lot more movies than they used to. And so, older movies can be just as accessible as newer movies in a lot of cases. This isn't like the 70s where you either saw movies on TV or the movie theatre and that was it. With equal access to most decades of movies, the ones with the highest quality will tend to get seen more often by viewers, regardless of age bracket. I hope that my nephew will enjoy the original Pokemon movies and other 90s movies when he is old enough to enjoy them.

Time of release isn't so much an issue anymore. I sort of feel sorry for modern moviemakers, as they are having to fight for the attention of viewers who have nearly a century of movies to consume and appreciate. I do wonder if we really need new movies these days, seeing as many are just remakes/sequels anyway.
