Thread: Doom (1993) update rolling out ahead of QuakeCon, combines the original and Doom II,
should be good for those who still haven't played it. But it would be better to remaster Doom 3 or Quake 4 or maybe RtCW

Would be cool if they included the PS1 version like Quake 2 did with he N64 version

It was Doom 3's 20th anniversary a few days ago, so that would've been more appropriate.

I doubt any update for classic Doom will be as good as the GZDoom source port, so I'll stick with those. If they make a new .WAD, cool, I'll add it to GZDoom.

That's good. I mean I have extra levels already apart from the latest one.

When it launched on the switch this game ran terrible and had some issues.

Between night dive and ID the game has been updated and having some great free content. One of the old school greats it is legitimately in my all time favourite video games list.

This boom Source thing. I bet you down the road someone is going to make it so you can open up your switch easily as it were.

Was Final Doom already in with Doom 2?

It's good to get things for free, but they keep messing with my library lol.

Nice to see previous owners get this upgrade for nothing. Good shit.

People can hate Microsoft all they want, but they usually does hand out free updates like this when something major comes.

And damn I am gonna play this so much again. Played it on Xbox One last year, gonna boot it up on my PC this year now. Have it on both (all?) platforms anyway as Doom is mandatory on any platform it exists on.

Yeah, the free updates are nice. Gonna try out this version of the game when I have time (installing it right now off GOG). Not sure how it compares to GZDoom and I do usually like to play with a mod for Doom 1 that adds the Super Shotgun which I'm not sure if it's compatible or not. But either way, having options is nice.

I will say I did ultimately stick with the original and a source port for Dark Forces because that source port added quicksaves while the Nightdive remaster didn't, but Doom should have saves from the get go so that shouldn't be an issue.

Had a quick go with the new version. I'm pleased with it. A nice presentation with new options but it tells you immediately and gives you the chance to disable everything new when you first open the game.

You get a nice little summary when you get to the game selection screen with release dates, game info, and some background for each one.

You also get dev stuff like cut/beta sprite sheets etc to look through.

There is also a new remixed soundtrack that you can change to and from at any time, and changing starts the level theme from the beginning.

All in all it's a really nice upgrade that makes it super convenient to jump into classic Doom instead of having 5 different separate games on your launcher, but the old WADs are still there if you want them.

As far as I can see there are no downsides to this upgrade whatsoever.

Looks like another NightDive hit. I still haven't played the Quake 1 Machinegames DLC, and I have the entirety of Quake 2 to do after that, so this will have to wait until I'm done with both Quakes first.

My only complaint is that they didn't include the PS1 version. Would have been a nice bonus considering how different that version is form the regular Doom experience

I love the ad ons for doom and quake.
All free as well some great value

These are the type of FPS games I like. A cross between gps and exploring.

Much prefer them to CoD.

I have Doom classic Doom 2 (plus all the add ons for the switch)
Doom3 , Doom64 , 2016 and eternal
Quake (all add ons) quake 2

Wolfenstein new colossus

bolt gun, Prodeus and Ion fury

Yeah the more modern ones run at 30fps but I'm happy to play them.
Haven't got the cash or time to get a massive beast PC. So for me it's the next best thing. (FPS and resolution purists be damned)

But who ever decided to make the enhanced version a free add on for previous owners you are doing gods work. I wish more devs would do this.

Doom and Quake are up there for my all time greats.

My versions haven't been updated on the switch in the UK. wtf? How do I update them ?

Someone on GAF found something to complain about

Oh hell yeah that's cool. Can't wait to check it out.

And now please someone make a Portal RTX style path tracing remake of the Doom games.

Tried it a bit. Aiming feels a little floaty after Quake. Vsync is off so don't know what's happening there. New soundtrack is cool but it sounds too heavy at times. They did a good job of having different formats of original OST.

I'll try Sigil and new episode some time later

I've seen suggestion that Vulkan on Nightdive stuff can lead to input lag and that DX11 is better, maybe that's worth looking at.

Its cool in a tech demo way but I would not want the play the whole game like that. The effects look way over the top.

I think it looks awesome, but yeah these mods often have some issues. Mainly because the original lighting wasn't made in a plausible way, not making any sense being totally fake. Throwing RT or PT at it, some areas tend to be too dark, with visibility issues.
