Probably. Still there have been some insane game leaks over the past few years and all the HD-2D titles are definitly leading towards HD-2D FFVI, DQ IV-V-VI and Chrono Trigger HD-2D. Outside possibility of Star Ocean Second Story R being the style.
Or using an improved Dragon Quest XI if they go all out.

I don't believe it, why didn't they say anything for the 30th anniversary. Are they waiting on the 35th, 40th or 50th anniversary to announce this?

I don't want a straightforward remake. I want it to get the Remake/Rebirth treatment where they add weird new shit that makes 0 sense.

Part of the charm of the game for me as someone who played it 50 years after it came out is the simplistic yet highly effective and deep impact of the visuals, gameplay, dialogue etc. I believe a lot would be lost in a remake, even if it was "2D-HD" style.
I don't even like the cutscenes added in the DS version (for a first playthrough, that is). Even those additions I felt deviate quite a lot from the original style of the game.
But of course, keep remaking shit until we run out of shit to remake. It's actually a good thing; the more remakes in developement, the sooner the bubble will burst and they'd have nothing else to recycle.

I have a theory Dragon Quest XII and a potential Chrono Trigger Remake will be using Visions of Mana and Sand Land art design/landscapes, both of which have very striking visual design and multiple methods of traversal.

I don't think the modern devs can properly understand what made the original so good: CT was compact and short, memorable, with almost no bloat or meandering, and the short playtime made multiple playthroughs a realistic expectation.
CT Remade would be 60+ hours just for the main story, and tons of side content that balloons every single NPC and every location into a bloated 'memberberries carnival. Ayla will have smaller boobs and will be like She Hulk Attorney At Law in demeanor. Frog and Lucca will be an allegory for transgenderism, living as your true self. Magus will be recruitable in Part Two. Oh yeah I forgot to mention they'll definitely be cutting it into two games.

At least Square-Enix should have a measure of the insane public reception and every gaming outlet running with it without even verifying it like professionals would just for the very idea of Chrono Trigger being remade.
I refuse to believe the HD-2D games are not test runs for Dragon Quest IV-V-VI HD-2D, Final Fantasy I-VI HD-2D Remakes, Chrono Trigger HD-2D Remake. Or possibly going the hybrid Star Ocean Second Story R route.
And I do think Visions of Mana/Sand Land are testbeds for Dragon Quest XII world and environments, potentially Chrono Trigger Remake if they are going all out.
Possibly also Final Fantasy XVII if they are hard reversing from the tone of XV and XVI after their sheer dropoff and reception. That can't be ignored, at least not by idiots.

It's not on eShop. It wasn't playable on PS4 or PS5 and no Xbox store versions. Only on mobile and Steam version is base on the mobile.
So no it's not on most current storefronts!

I'm honestly very afraid when this eventually happens (it will, let's not kid ourselves). It's like trying to repaint the Sistine Chapel. It's borderline sacred. You just can't do it in a way which will please most exisiting fans. Especially if it's in that '2D-HD' style which will not do the game justice.
