Gunn, who directed Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" and is leading the DC Studios reboot with co-CEO Peter Safran, announced the new DC Comics projects in a video tweeted Tuesday.

  • The projects are a part of what Gunn called "Chapter 1: God and Monsters."
  • This will be separate from the previous DC Expanded Universe, which featured blockbusters like "Justice League" and "Aquaman."
  • "Storytelling is always king," Gunn said in the announcement video. "That's all that matters to us."

Here's a quick look at what to expect from Gunn's DC plan.

"Creature Commandos" will be an animated series of military super-humans written by Gunn. He said characters could appear in both animated and live action projects.

"Waller" will be a spin-off series to the HBO Max show "Peacemaker" that focuses on Viola Davis' head of government character, who has been featured in other DC Comics films, Gunn said.

"Superman: Legacy" will bring the classic superhero back with a new movie focused on his upbringing on Earth as well as his heritage from the planet Krypton, per the New York Times. The film, which Gunn called the "true beginning of the DCU," is slated to be released on July 11, 2025.

"Lanterns" will be an HBO television series that focuses on Green Lantern heroes Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Gunn said the series will tie into the bigger DCU story.

"The Authority" will be a "big movie" based on characters who want to fix the world "by any means necessary," Gunn said, describing it as a "very different look at superheroes."

"Paradise Lost" will be a "Game of Thrones"-style television series that is based around the all-female island Themyscira, where Wonder Woman was born, Gunn said.

"The Brave and the Bold" is a new Batman movie that will feature Bruce Wayne and Damian Wayne, Batman's young killer son, as Robin, according to Gunn.

"Booster Gold" is an HBO Max series about "a loser" from the future who comes back to save the day, Gunn said.

"Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" is a new "science fiction epic film" that will focus on Supergirl, who grew up on a chunk of the planet Krypton and watched all of the people around her die, Gunn said. She is "a much more jaded character," he added.

"Swamp Thing" will be "a very dark horror story" that takes place "outside of the rest of the DCU" but will feed into the rebooted DC universe story, Gunn said.

Of note: "The Batman: Part II" is the sequel to the 2022 film starring Robert Pattinson, per the Hollywood Reporter. The sequel will be disconnected from the main DCU, similar to Todd Phillips' "Joker" films, Gunn said.

What we're watching: DC already has a number of films coming out this year — including "Shazam! Fury of the Gods," "The Flash," "Blue Beetle," and "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" — that appear to have a subtle connection to the new DCU.

  • Gunn said "Flash" will "reset the entire DC universe." He said "Blue Beetle" and the "Aquaman" sequel will then lead into the new slate of projects, he added.
  • The actors within those projects could return in future projects, Gunn said.

gets Up from toilet and looks at what he created and shakes his head "damn the whole bowls full" he then proceeds to flush. Now a curious group of Coachroaches finds his hard work and proceeds to admire it as a masterpiece of culinary arts.

yeah that's how these superhero movies were always made

Another batman film with another guy playing batman, while another batman film is being made as a sequel to a new batman that didn't feature the previous batman?

This is a mess.

1.) ALL of these movies sound sooooo boring. Wow.

2.) Who is that white-haired dude in the photos? He looks so cringe. Like a 60yo guy trying to look young and hip. lol

Not feeling it, most of these seem boring or unnecessary in concept. To add to that you literally feel the woke decisions seeping out from some of these descriptions. So much for Warner pivoting away from woke 🤷‍♂️

Respect for including Swamp Thing in the initial plans. Hopefully they don't fuck it up.

The Green Lantern show sounds pretty cool, but they will almost certainly fuck it up if in new and creative ways then the Ryan Reynolds film. Being a HBO production get ready for unecessary bordering on torture porn brutality, sex and overall nilism.

Just hoping Aquaman 2 is just as fun and over the top as the first one.

Ya more crappy movies. Do we really need 2 live action Batman movies?

The new Supes movie sounds horrible, yet another origin story for the 9 billionth time. And they will fuck it up because you can't have a good hard working honest patriotic father figure raising his son to be good. MEN ARE BAD.

Oh well good luck DC, your probably behind the curve now as the superhero fad seems to finally be dying down. Time to make videogame movies because thats the next thing hollywood is going to suck dry

They'll never stop copying Marvel.

"Oh, 90% of Marvel's properties either star a woman or put the male lead in the background for the female characters? I guess we'll do that too!"

But unfortunately with how long it takes to make this shit, we're just gonna see them do what Marvel is doing today for the next 3 years.

You know, fuck it, I'm gonna fanfic now how the DCCU should have been done. Warning, nerdsplaining incoming:

- Bale-Batman is THE Batman
- Henry Cavill stays Superman
- "Batman 4" without Batman, starring Nightwing who's teased at the end of "Dark Knight Rises". Nightwing adds a Robin and Batgirl to his team, the movie is about the struggle to keep Gotham in check without the original Batman. Villains of the movie will be a mix of mafia guys, some mysterious organization and the Penguin and Riddler. Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl (and Alfred) prove themselves, when at the very end Christian Bale returns. "You did good, Nightwing", he says, as he carries a young girl in his arms. "Who is tha-?", he wants to ask, as the girl start flickering in flames for a moment before the flames vanish again. "Meta-Human", Bale replies. "And there's more of them." Movie end.
- Aquaman-movie. Forget about all the cringe costumes and "Arielle the Mermaid"-like underwater town bs. We've got the backstory, Aquaman is the child of a normal man and an Atlantean woman, alright. The movie spends its majority and showing the boys upbringing, how he lives with his father, learns about his ability and that he mustn't tell anyone. Just a really nice origin story that takes its time. Fwiw he thinks his abilities are limited to breathing underwater and talking to animals, then some accident happens at the end, he comes to save the day and for the first time uses his super strength and speed, which lands him in newspapers. As we see a scene where Batman is in the batcave and worries about someone else getting his hands on the boys, the TV shows how Superman suddenly lands next to boy, talks to him for a moment, then both fly off. Last 5 minutes of the movie are Superman and Aquaman (who's like 25 at most) sit on some stone inmidst the sea and have a serene talk. Superman tells the boy that hardships are about to arrive and that he and the entire world need his help. And thus Aquaman joins.
- Movie called "META-HUMANS" releases in movie theaters. As opposed to the kiddy bullshit where nobody good dies, this movie is an all-out war where a secret organization unleashes its meta-humans, allthewhile Batman and Superman, separate from each other, try to save meta-humans who are mostly teenagers. That's where Flash, Cyborg (who doesnt have a permanent glowing red eye, sigh), but also Martian Hunter and Secret. The "villain" of the movie turns out to be Super-Boy, who is an artificial meta-human, made from Superman's dna. Superboy can be defeated and joins the heroes, but hates Superman nonetheless. Robin becomes the leader of the younger meta-humans, while Batman, Superman, Aquaman and Flash wonder whats gonna happen, when a green light hits their gathering spot.
- Now comes a big, super important "Green Lantern"-movie, telling how the first human became a lantern and so on. Basically like the existing movie, but much, much better.
- Wonder-Woman movie now. This actually continues after "META-HUMANS". Green Lantern told the heroes that a much bigger threat is approaching, but they're all too weak, so they must train ... on the amazones' island. The movie will mostly be spent on the island, where the heroes gotta train without using their gadgets and stuff, and receive lots of humiliation by the female warriors. Movie ends with some space alien appearing, the first threat from outer space. Afterwards Green Lantern is like "now you're ready. Come follow me."
- Spinoff-movie starring Lobo. Lots of fragging, very fun movie as opposed to the serious movies up to now. Lots of fragging. Sex. And more fragging. Shows Lobo on his adventures through space, even shows how he showed up on the amazone's island during the last movie, but the women quickly kicked this horny monster out of their kingdom. Just a fun movie that pays respect to this fun anti-hero.
- Green Lantern-Organization movie, introduces the Justice League to the space-tier of adventures. Talks about Darkseid and Brainiac. Also lots of other villains and heroes. This movie is really about establishing a lot of important shit, showing cool environments, and how it all relates to Earth.
- Spinoff-movie #2 featuring the Young Justice-league, doing adventures on Earth
- From here on out, plenty of ways to continue. The MOST IMPORTANT thing is: Take - your - time. The biggest issue of the DCCU was that everything was way too rushed, so nobody cared about anything. Take it slow, as in, don't rush all the bigger story-parts, explore the individual characters more in-depth. Make us CARE.

Super crucial in all of that: Pick FITTING actors! Bale-Batman is the best batman because Bale is such a likeable Batman. Don't miscast anyone, even if it might be a "boring" choice. And then just focus on telling great stories. Ofc, it'd help if Christopher Nolan did some of these movies, especially the key-movies that hold everything together. The DCCU can be successful. But good choices need to be made.

Yeah...none of this sounds that compelling. If the intent is to carry on with Patteson's Batman why bother with a second one? Waller? Just about the most uninteresting character going. Not feeling it, and everything feels way too disconnected. Also Game of Greek Thrones: Lesbian Edition sounds a lot less enticing than Gunn maybe imagines.

I like what James Gunn did with Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, but damn, this doesn't sound very appealing to me.

Also, why announce a dozen projects already.
How about creating a movie, and see if people will like it and go on from there.

This "Cinematic Universe" shit is so played out by now.
