Welcome, you generously duplicitous bunch of fine festive bastards, to the first annual D-Pad Secret Santa.

Your beloved Father Disco has arranged permission from the (arguably not all terrible) mods here to coordinate proceedings.

The rules are simple. Sign up by posting your intention to take part in this thread by the 21st of November, buy a (non region specific) Steam game from your vender of choice, send me the code and the game's title by DM before the 17th of December, and you will be given a code yourself on the 24th.

Anyone who doesn't send me a game code, will not be getting one in return.

If you want to avoid getting a duplicate of a game you already have, either send me a list of games you own, or a link to your Steam library, and I will make sure you get something new to you, however I will still be randomising who gets what after that, so you cannot request specific games.

There are no restrictions on what game you can buy, however bear in mind that if you buy some brand new 70 dollarpoud AAA game, you might end up with a decade old indie title worth 70 pennycents in return.

As such, I advise as a guideline to spend between 5 to 10 quidbucks, and maybe keep your eyes peeled over the next month and a half for some good sales to maximise the value of your gift, instead of going crazy.

Of course there's nothing stopping you from being incredibly generous, or a despicable scrooge for that matter. That's on you.

Also for the first 10 that sign up, I will hand out some bonus unused codes I have lying around as extra little stocking stuffers, although think more along the lines of a Terry's Chocolate Orange, rather than the keys to a Ferrari.

Please note, this is only open to PC gamers with a Steam account.

This is purely to make things easier on my end and ensure everyone taking part will get something, but if this goes well, maybe we can look into extending to other platforms next year.

This is not a competition, no one is asking for your money, and no one needs to give any personal details. This is just a nice little bit of festive cheer for what is a great community of top blokes.

TLDR:

State you want to take part in this thread, before the 21st of November

Buy, then PM me a Steam code, as well the name of the game you bought, by the 17th of December

Receive a code in return on Christmas Eve.

Fun idea. I do very little gaming on PC so I'll sit out this year, but I hope it goes well for everyone.

Does the game have to be a good game?

The secret santa I do in real life is to buy the worst gift I can think of. For example; a Man U t-shirt for a Leeds fan, a crate of Stella for a recovering alcoholic and a "How to speak English" book for a guy with a lisp.

You are absolutely free to be a complete bastard.

If anything you can think of it as a challenge. Since it's random, you have to find a game that could be absolutely insulting to everyone here, without just being crap...

In, but I suggest people buy sensible playable titles versus spending money on games that will never get played. Otherwise, you might as well just burn your money. The idea is to make this a regular yearly thing, but if people are going to spike it with shit games from the off, people aren't going to bother participating going forward.

Shit games are better for something like the Unkindness Club which @strange headache used to run on GAF where you got gifted truly terrible titles and had to play them and document them.

Agree. Lets not make this a shit show and take it as a chance to gift someone a game that we think would be fun for someone to play. Maybe some hidden gems or games you like that aren't well known.

Just for record setting for my own side, I was totally kidding about the idea of buying someone Bad Rats for a buck as a secret santa gift. I was actually eyeing Days Gone potentially.

But yeah, it would be really shitty to submit some $1 game code and then receive a $30 one...

Aye, I hope people see this as an opportunity to share games they love and might be less well known, to give genuinely nice Christmas presents to one another.

However we are all adults, and free to make our own choices. If you want to be a wanker, then you can be, but I would prefer you get into the spirit of the season and not be an arse about it.

As a reminder, you don't need to send me a code until the 17th of December, so there's no rush. If there's a game you'd really want to give, but that's a bit too pricey right now, hold off and keep an eye on the sales over the next couple of months.

Some lucky bastard is going to receive Depression Quest for xmas!!
Actually I've got to say so far people have been far more generous than I was anticipating.

Even if anyone does give a joke game, I can make sure whoever gets it can have something good alongside it.

The CD Keys black Friday sale starts next Tuesday, the 22nd November.

If anyone still needs to grab a code to send me, this will be a good way to maximise your gifting girth.
Cool idea. I'm in. I own various shit across various platforms and it'd be a pain in the ass to list everything so if I end up with something I've already played I'll just gift it to somebody else down the line.
