Looks incredible with the near-abusive use of lighting effects and detailed maps. I usually keep an eye on new shmups and there's nothing even remotely as cinematic or detailed as CYGNI. This blew my mind. Most shmup devs are going in the opposite direction, sadly, using simple/boring backgrounds.

Anyway, the twin-stick aspect should make it more appealing to the masses, but it's otherwise a traditional vertical scrolling shmup. PS5 / Xbox series / PC only.

For those interested, here's the trailer from 2 years ago. Graphics have drastically improved.

100% agree with @DonDonDonPata

This genre deserves modern visuals that bring it to the next level. The trend to go old school graphics sucks, make it epic, detailed, let the particles fly, give me them advanced shaders.

Game looks good, will keep an eye on it!

Yeah I got strong Housemarque vibes (Nex Machina and Resogun are of course very similar in genre), just pumping the visuals of a simple genre to another level.

Housemarque is more on the cartoony side. Returnal is by far their most realistic game. Everything in NM and Resogun are dripping with particle effects, voxels, etc.

Cygni looks darker, simpler in color palette, more cinematic. I really love the look, especially the dense explosions when a boss goes down, that really caught my eye the first time I saw the trailer. All the movement down below on the map adds so much activity, and apparently this will use RayForce's ground targeting so that's cool.

Now all I need is a Star Fox 64 type game, modernized with Unreal Engine 5 raytraced particle filled visuals.
