Thread: Cyberpunk Sold 13.7+ Million Copies in 2020

I absolutely love the game, but damn, that's a whole lot of people who got burned hard and will not be quick to trust CDPR again. I really hope they can redeem themselves with ongoing support.

Looking forward to finally getting into this. 7 hours so far, but started getting buggy and crash-happy on my PC so I stopped. I was going to wait to buy a new GFX card so I can at least play it in 60FPS, but that probably ain't gonna happen anytime soon. Good to see CDPR working hard on making it a better experience, will probably dive in fairly soon when I have a bit off time off work or something.

Honestly, on the PC it's pretty decent, though obviously quite demanding (had plenty of bugs, but no crashes before 1.2 tbh). If you're getting crashes you might want to either adjust your graphical settings down some or maybe even giving your case a good clean. It's the sort of game that puts your PC through its paces and often times a bit of a cleanout can make the difference in such situations.

I'm so close to the end but haven't finished yet. Been waiting to see if my two busted gigs will ever be fixed. I'm close to the Platinum too but buying up the rest of those cars (5 mil easily) would take hours upon hours of grinding kills and selling the loot.

Still my GOTY 2020

Yeah same. I was really enjoying it but decided to shelve it til the XSX patch comes. I didn't have too many glitches or whatever.
That's what I've been fighting with myself on too. Like I know I'm going to want to absolutely dive in when the new gen patch arrives, so do I finish my run? Finish it when it gets those fresh upgrades? Ugh. So torn. First world problems indeed.

I'm genuinely shocked by that number if true. Surely it doesn't include any refunds via other platforms?

From the article:

As pointed out by Ars Technica, CD Projekt's reported 30,000 refunds and $2.23 million costs cover only its 'Help Me Refund Program' – but the company's latest financial report seems to point out that the total projected cost of refunds and lost sales is $51.2 million.

Broken down, that includes the $2.23 million for Help Me Refund (i.e. refunds made directly to CD Projekt), $10.65 million for refunds made directly to retailers in 2020,

So, it sounds like $2.23 million in direct refunds, and $10.65 million for refunds made to "retailers" (assuming that Xbox, PlayStation, Steam are also included in this). Or almost 5x the amount of retailer refunds vs direct refunds in dollar amount, but they were already making less per sold unit.

Just hypothetical but:
$2.23 million / $60 = 37,166 direct sale refunds
$10.65 million / $42 (assuming retailer cut of 30%) = 253,571 retailer sale refunds

This math is probably not quite right, but I think it's probably closer to the reality unless I'm missing something.

Either way, the refund numbers are still way under even 10% of the total units sold.

I just finished the game. I have mixed thoughts, to be honest. I found the ending threads underwhelming. But overall I think I found the whole game underwhelming. Maybe I was expecting The Witcher 3's level of quality in writing, but it is nowhere near there.

I think they could have done better with a smaller world with fewer copy/paste encounters and more well thought side quests.

I like the shooting, I think they did alright there. The skill tree though was crap. I mean totally crap. 2% more hacking, 5% more evasion ... nonsense. Pointlessly large. They should have made it much smaller and much more meaningful. See the common thread?

God damn beautiful game though, I give them that.

I spent 70 hours with the game. I enjoyed it. But it did not meet my expectations. 🤷‍♂️
