just buy a original copy rip it and enjoy. Like seriously you can just put the disc in a standard dvd drive and play it off that. Your emulating regardless anyways

I can't help but think that some of the lower scores are from reviewers who weren't old enough to play JRPGs on the PS1 when they were originally released, so they aren't used to, style, mechanics, and difficulty.

Frame rate issues for a PS1 game running on modern hardware?
I'll believe it. No second thoughts
I bought a friend with an Intel Core Duo level processor the steam version of "Collection of SaGa FF Legend", which is three Gameboy games, and the poor fellow can't play it.

So if I'm reading this correctly, wait for a patch if one ever comes or play if your incredible desperate for Chrono Cross?

One of the reviews mentioned a day one patch plus a second patch already in the works. Hopefully they help.

Didn't it take SE years to fix a music looping glitch in FF9?

I won't play it for a long while but I voted with my wallet and bought it on xbox today

I just want old jrpgs on xbox, might as well do my part

Thanks for bringing this one to the too often neglected platform, Square Enix

Picked it up for Switch and played about an hour of it last night.

It's exactly the sort of port I was expecting for $20. Nothing spectacular but not terrible.

I think people have unrealistic expectations for ports, especially at the $20 price point. Personally, I'd be happy to see other PS1-era games ported like this.

I think that a game from 23 years ago should be expected to run very well on modern hardware. Frame rate problems just shouldn't happen on a game this old running on modern hardware. That's not unrealistic, even at $20.
What does it say about Square Enix that they would release one of their more iconic (if controversial) RPGs in such a state, especially with today's technology?

So is this the first game in a series? Bit put off its not wide-screen.
Chrono Trigger is first, I wouldn't say playing it is needed, the connections are either spelled out or so vague even a Chrono Trigger fan could miss them, but there are some connections that majorly pay off if you've played Chrono Trigger before Cross

Brilliant, cheers. I'll look into it. 💪

After reading this thread, I'm still completely torn as to whether this is worth picking up. I also enjoy old school RPGs, but realistically I don't know when I'll get around to actually playing this.
