Capcom has updated its list of “Platinum Titles“—games that have sold over one million units—providing total sales numbers as of March 31, 2021.

Notable updates include:

  • Monster Hunter World: Iceborne (PS4, Xbox One) has sold 7.7 million units (500,000 additional units since December 31)
  • Resident Evil 7: biohazard (PS4, Xbox One, PC) has sold nine million units (500,000 additional units since December 31)
  • Monster Hunter: World (PS4, Xbox One, PC) has sold 17.1 million units (300,000 additional units since December 31)
  • Resident Evil 3 (PS4, Xbox One, PC) has sold four million units (400,000 additional units since December 31)
  • Resident Evil 2 (PS4, Xbox One, PC) has sold 8.1 million units (300,000 additional units since December 31)
  • Street Fighter V (PS4, PC) has sold 5.5 million copies (300,000 additional units since December 31)
  • Devil May Cry 5 (PS4, Xbox One, PC) has sold 4.3 million units (200,000 additional units since December 31)

This is also the first appearance of Monster Hunter Rise on Capcom’s list of Platinum Titles, which lists the game at 4.8 million units sold. But given this number is as of March 31, is a bit outdated, as the game has since shipped a total of six million units.

And they're gonna get three more sales boosts this year from RE Village, MH Rise, and MH Stories 2.

I wouldn't mind if MH became CAPCOM's new flagship...

Shame REmake 3 hasn't sold better, but then again they really did half arse it.

I'm astonished 7 is still shifting so many though. I know hype for 8 has been building, but I still find the title underwhelming in every way.

Capcom near perfectly managed to ride the massive success of RE as an action/online co-op game, right into its old horror-based self (give or take a bit of tone), and not only keep the sales, but improve on them in a big way.

It kind of defies all sensibilities for RE7 to be hanging out at 9 million, that sales would follow a borderline genre change, but here we are.

My only explanation is all the positive word-of-mouth, this decade’s phenomenon of hugely successful horror playthroughs with big personalities on YouTube (this could be a big part of it), and the general great job Capcom is doing with RE right now. Maybe a little sequel hype as well.

I know what you mean. I think regardless of its status as an RE game though, it is a really good game in general, and probably the most terrifying game I’ve ever seen, at least in terms of mainstream releases. It’s that I think people are responding to.

Surely I can't be the only one who is ecstatic that Capcom seems to be back to their old selves, and for good. The PS3/360 gen was largely awful for them. It seems like they've figured out what made them so great for so many generations.
