One of the greatest RPGs is flying back exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025!
BRAVELY DEFAULT FLYING FAIRY HD Remaster is a remaster of the first game in the BRAVELY series - originally released in the West as BRAVELY DEFAULT and in Japan as BRAVELY DEFAULT FLYING FAIRY.
The game is a refreshing take on the classic RPG with a story about Warriors of Light and crystals reminiscent of the classic FINAL FANTASY games. It features a party of highly memorable heroes, a tale set in a vibrant world, impressive character customization and a battle system that stands as one of the most fun and strategic in the genre.
The game was a big hit, selling more than 3 million copies worldwide and winning acclaim from critics, and was also the inspiration for the brilliant OCTOPATH TRAVELER series. Now it's back for Nintendo Switch 2 - and it looks and plays better than ever before!
What's the story of the game?
The world of Luxendarc is plunged into chaos when a Great Chasm tears the earth apart. The four elemental crystals that bring light to the world are consumed by darkness, and it brought disaster to the world as a result.
The game starts with a young man named Tiz, whose life is torn apart when his village is swallowed by the chasm. Before long, he meets Agnès, a vestal who has dedicated her life to tending to the crystals.
Together, they set off on a journey to close the chasm and free the crystals… unaware of the true significance of their goal.
What do you do in the game?
In true RPG fashion, you'll get to explore a vibrant world full of beautiful locales, fascinating people and secrets a-plenty. As the story progresses, you'll build a party of fellow heroes, each with their own motivations and colorful personalities.
Together, you'll travel between towns and continents, each one full of imaginative scenarios, brilliant battles and stirring stories.
One of the game's strongest elements is how much control it gives you over your party. It features an expansive and varied job system, which lets you decide the roles of each of your party members in battle.
There are more than 20 different jobs available, from frontline fighters like Knights, to spell slinging White and Black Mages, each with their own strengths and weaknesses to discover. With so many jobs obtained by defeating powerful foes, each job has its own specialized fighting style and abilities to learn, and there's endless fun playing with different builds and party compositions.
You can see how they perform in the game's amazing battle system, which is one of the reasons the game has its distinctive name.
How does the battle system work?
BRAVELY DEFAULT features turn-based battles that offer incredible tactical depth thanks to two special commands: Brave and Default.
Choosing to 'Brave' lets you spend brave points (BP) to take up to four actions in a single turn. 'Default' lets you shore up your defenses and accumulate BP to use later. This seemingly simple idea makes every battle a supremely strategic skirmish - especially considering enemies can do the same.
Do you splurge all your BP to overwhelm the enemy with attacks, or default to withstand some big hits and plan an assault for later?
There's loads more to consider too - elemental weaknesses, buffs, debuffs, enemy actions - the list goes on. With so many jobs to choose from, and so many different abilities and spells that come with them, the possibilities in battle seem near endless.
It all adds up to one of the best battle systems in modern RPGS - simple to understand and use, but with incredible depth that only increases the more your play. It's great.
What features does the game include?
The game includes some compelling features that make it really fun and convenient to play, including;
High definition graphics
You don't need us to tell you the graphics have been improved - the screenshots and trailer speak for themselves. In new super-crispy HD, the warm picture book-style visuals are more beautiful than ever.
Character model textures and environments appear in HD. The warm, picture-book-like graphics that defined the original can now be appreciated in fuller beauty.
Redesigned user interface
The original game released on Nintendo 3DS, so naturally the game's been reworked to play on a single screen. Quality of life features implemented in other series games, like a 'Heal All' button and recommended character levels for dungeons, are also in this game!
All the handy features you'd expect, such as recommended character levels for dungeons and the 'Heal All' button are also in the game.
Fast Forward
Enjoy the game at your pace. In addition to the original feature that battles can be made up to 4x faster, event scenes can also be fast forwarded at double speed while autoplay is selected.
Encounter rate settings
Same as the original version, you can change the rate of random encounters to your liking, from 50% to 200%, at any time from the field map. Whether you want to explore with less danger or keep the foes a-coming to build that valuable experience, the power is in your hands!
Note - Ecounter rate can eventually be set to 0% as in the original.
Online compatibility
The networking features used in the original version on Nintendo 3DS have been retooled for the Nintendo Switch 2's free network connectivity. Whether you work together with allies from your platform's friend list or power through the adventure on your own is up to you.
New minigames
You can take a break from adventuring to enjoy two different types of all-new minigames. Playing these awards various bonuses, including newly added notes in D's Journal that reveal previously untold facets of the story!
Luxencheer Rhythm Catch…
…and Ringabel's Panic Cruise!
