A letter from Bravely Default's composer, Revo: New
A letter from Bravely Default's composer, Revo: To all you BRAVELY fans, have you been well? And to all of you first-time visitors to Luxendarc, welcome! This is Revo, your music captain speaking! Hooray and huzzah for the HD Remaster! At last, this masterpiece is resurrected in the current era. There are those whom I may be known as a one-hit-anime-theme-song-wonder, but Nay! I say---call me that after you've played BRAVELY DEFAULT. Having given all the music a relisten this time, Holy smokes, this is some brilliant stuff. Was the composer divinely inspired? ...And another such drivel is meaningless from me. It's the gorgeous, fanciful graphics, the surprise-packed story, and the unfettered fun of character-driven gameplay all taken together to which the musical accompaniment adds but a colorful bit of garnish. As for the remastered aspects, I really don't know anything other than the new rhythm game, so I am really, really looking forward to getting to play the rest. I wonder how the restoration of Norende is coming along. Is Master still gaining nothing but a magic bruising when he Nothing Ventures? Are my beloved keystones still popping dragons? Is my dear friend Friend-Bot in good health? Dear players, please enjoy every last minute of this game. And if it's not too much trouble, please let me know whether you think el capitán Revo is still a one-hit-wonder or not! Signed, Revo BDHD

BRAVELY DEFAULT FLYING FAIRY HD Remaster is a remaster of the first game in the BRAVELY series - originally released in the West as BRAVELY DEFAULT and in Japan as BRAVELY DEFAULT FLYING FAIRY. What's the story of the game?
The world of Luxendarc is plunged into chaos when a Great Chasm tears the earth apart. The four elemental crystals that bring light to the world are consumed by darkness, and it brought disaster to the world as a result.

The game starts with a young man named Tiz, whose life is torn apart when his village is swallowed by the chasm. Before long, he meets Agnès, a vestal who has dedicated her life to tending to the crystals.

Together, they set off on a journey to close the chasm and free the crystals… unaware of the true significance of their goal.

What do you do in the game?
In true RPG fashion, you'll get to explore a vibrant world full of beautiful locales, fascinating people and secrets a-plenty. As the story progresses, you'll build a party of fellow heroes, each with their own motivations and colorful personalities.

Together, you'll travel between towns and continents, each one full of imaginative scenarios, brilliant battles and stirring stories.

One of the game's strongest elements is how much control it gives you over your party. It features an expansive and varied job system, which lets you decide the roles of each of your party members in battle.

There are more than 20 different jobs available, from frontline fighters like Knights, to spell slinging White and Black Mages, each with their own strengths and weaknesses to discover. With so many jobs obtained by defeating powerful foes, each job has its own specialized fighting style and abilities to learn, and there's endless fun playing with different builds and party compositions.

You can see how they perform in the game's amazing battle system, which is one of the reasons the game has its distinctive name.

How does the battle system work?
BRAVELY DEFAULT features turn-based battles that offer incredible tactical depth thanks to two special commands: Brave and Default.

Choosing to 'Brave' lets you spend brave points (BP) to take up to four actions in a single turn. 'Default' lets you shore up your defenses and accumulate BP to use later. This seemingly simple idea makes every battle a supremely strategic skirmish - especially considering enemies can do the same.

Do you splurge all your BP to overwhelm the enemy with attacks, or default to withstand some big hits and plan an assault for later?

There's loads more to consider too - elemental weaknesses, buffs, debuffs, enemy actions - the list goes on. With so many jobs to choose from, and so many different abilities and spells that come with them, the possibilities in battle seem near endless.

It all adds up to one of the best battle systems in modern RPGS - simple to understand and use, but with incredible depth that only increases the more your play. It's great.

Battle Mechanics New
Battle Mechanics
BRAVELY DEFAULT FLYING FAIRY HD Remaster has a deep and engaging battle system that gives you a lot of flexibility in how you approach battles. It's so good, we named the game for it!

Managing the brave points (BP) that determine the number of your actions is the cornerstone of battle in Bravely Default. Two commands bring a new dimension of enjoyment to battle: 'brave' to expend BP and increase the number of actions taken in a turn, or 'default' to shore up your defenses and accumulate BP for later.

Brave
Brave lets you act up to four times in a single turn. Annihilate the enemy with an onslaught of attack moves or recover from a sticky situation with a combination of resurrection and healing moves. You can even take an advance and use BP you’ve yet to use up… though this will drive your BP into the negative and prevent you from further action until it returns to zero. Take care not to overplay your hand with thoughtless bravery.

Default
Default lets you store up BP, while also lessening damage taken. A turn spent defaulting is also an opportunity to analyze the enemy’s actions - invaluable when going up against an unknown foe or a boss. The enemy is able to brave and default, too; if you see them defaulting in a row, you had better prepare some way to bear the braving to follow.

Jobs New
Jobs
Each character in your party can be assigned different jobs - these determine their role and abilities in combat. For example, Monks are great physical fighters, while Black Mages can use magic to hurl elemental spells at foes.

During the game, you'll face off against all sorts of powerful foes. Defeat such a foe and you might obtain their asterisk - a stone that confers its bearer's job.

Each job has its own specialized fighting style and abilities to learn, so acquiring new jobs opens up
exponentially new possibilities to explore in battle.

Abilities
Raising the level of a job gives you access to two types of abilities: command abilities that can be used in battle, and support abilities that confer their effects just by being equipped. You can plan how you want to raise your jobs going forward by checking the job menu to see which abilities different jobs will learn.

There are more than twenty jobs to choose from and each character may use a combination of abilities from any two jobs at one time.

As you progress through the story, you'll be able to have more equipped at once. It's a good idea to reevaluate your setup from time to time as you go up against ever-stronger foes.

and of all things, another inspiration for Bravely Default and the ??? in the thread title by its very nature makes the name itself a spoiler. Perhaps best clicked after playing completing Bravely Default-

Higurashi When they Cry was a inspiration for parts of Bravely Default. No I am not joking.

Bravely Default eventually got its own Spiritual Successor JRPG series with Octopath Traveler which uses many of its systems including the Default/Break system though Octopath Traveler has a larger recruitable party but a less extensive if still sizable job system then Bravely Default.

Greatest strength is the gameplay. The job variety, combined with the brave system, combined with the ability to scale how frequent random encounters are (can be set to none), makes it a very enjoyable comfort food RPG.

Artstyle is a plus if you're into it.
