This thread is to discuss all elements of pedal/electric bikes, and the latest new releases.

Interested to see if there are any other fellow bike riders here. Anyone do much Biking/Cycling? What Bike do you have? More for commuting or leisure?

I bike ride to work 5 times a week and the odd trip for fun. My bike is a cheaper Subway 2 Hybrid (pictured), it's pretty beat up now, so looking to buy another one. Not sure if I should go for a another Hybrid or a Road Bike. I also see Gravel bikes seem to be the in thing now, but they command quite a premium.

No replies huh, too many fat asses here?

I've always enjoyed cycling. In my late teens and early 20's, I was seriously considering going for the Tour De France, up until I started working in an extremely smoky environment, then my racer was stolen one night (as well as my Specialized) after someone broke into the pub I lived in at the time.

My minimum targets were to ride 250 miles a week with an average speed no lower than 25mph. There was a 60 mile loop of the surrounding towns and villages that I used - to do the whole 60 mile loop used to take me just barely over the 2 hour mark, but that includes a number of stops for lights/junctions. I'd usually be in the 14,000 - 17,000 mile range by the end of the year.

I had a racing bike shop custom build that racer for me, which weighed in at 8.2Kg once all done - it had a half carbon fibre, half "Kinesium" frame by Kenesis, I forget what model the Shimano wheels were, but they had the least amount of spokes I had ever seen, the gears were Ultegra's, the brakes and handle bars I have forgotten. I have old photos somewhere which I could try and dig up. It was a good looking bike, so easy to pick up even with just one finger and such a pleasure to ride, really miss it. The only "flaw" it had were at the top end of the gearing, I couldn't get more than 40mph top speed because it was geared slightly too short for big downhills or hard tail winds.

Nowadays I just bike to work and back since it's only a few miles. Man do I miss the days of overtaking mopeds and setting off 30mph speed cameras though.

I have a bike. Its a some sort of cheap Schwinn Mountain bike. Its functional for riding for fresh air/exercise. Overall kind of a POS, but in great condition, was cheap and gets the job done. Only thing that sucks is the god damned heat/sun in Texas. Makes riding awful for a few months unless I want to get up early to ride...and I do not.

Just ordered my new bike. It came down to two choices, but I wasn't ready to go Tubeless just yet. I have only had one puncture in two years on my current Tube bike. Anyways I got a Giant Escape 0 (2024) for £850 (£999 RRP). Alloy frame, carbon Fork. Fairly wide 38mm tires for a variety of terrain. Alot of bikes out there have some great parts, but cut in others to reach the price. I feel like this is upper medium in parts across the board. From what I gather suspension in bikes costing less than a grand and/or predominantly on roads and paths, are more a negative than a positive.

Ps the only peddling some people have done here, is flogging their second hand games 😉
