I always found this fight to be one of the better ones in terms of how RAW and visceral it is. One detail I always liked was Dan's attitude after the fight ended. He's not in a jolly or celebratory mood, but looks haunted and traumatized that he just committed a heinous act of violence and lived to tell the tale.
Incidentally, there's no doubt in my mind Rockstar Games was influenced by this scene when doing the huge saloon brawl in the first act of Red Dead Redemption 2.
I can still remember when I first saw this movie. I rented it on VHS from a grocery store in town, and the movie was named Police Force and dubbed. I was in high school and I can remember being floored at this action scene at the beginning. Even now, when rewatching it, I was ready for the awesome music to start at 1:54, like it is embracing us for the action to step up a notch (as if it was possible after the car scene).
This movie, along with The Killer, changed my life and gave me a love for Hong Kong action cinema. Back then, if we didn't want to spend over $100 purchasing the movie through mailorder on VHS, we had to go to the city market and purchase bootlegs to see the latest action masterpieces. We have it so easy now. [/old man rant]
