Thread: Avatar- The Last AirBender | Netflix Trailer
I never got the hype around this series. I watched one or two episodes and while good for a kid's show it just never really grabbed me. Still, this looks way better than that crap movie Shyamalan directed. At least they got actual Asian looking kids to play the parts.

The hero's journey done nearly perfectly.

When I first became aware of the show I thought it would be some dumb by-the-numbers kid's show, but when I gave it a chance, it shot up to the number one spot for Western cartoons.

I enjoy Legend of Korra (young adult sequel series... bit darker but so good) more but it's a great fucking story.

I just don't know why they can't release a follow-up series and fuck off with this live action stuff. It's not a good show for live action, imo.

Edit: watched the trailer and damnit... it looks really good. If it's One Piece quality I'll watch it. They nailed the aesthetic...

Something I just realized about the trailer.

I don't like that they showed Ozai's face. Having him be a limited, lurking presence was an excellent choice in the cartoon for building the tension that Aang felt. They even had the sequence where he would have nightmares imagining what Ozai looks like.

Yeah. After Korra was disappointing, I later rewatched TLA to see if it held up and I noticed how well they told the story. In the first episode, every key ingredient is laid out and it all pays off in the end of the series. Normally something with multiple seasons goes off in random directions to keep up content, but Airbender had a plan from the start and followed that journey until the end.

Uh...are they doing Earth book first? Wtf?

Edit: I might be mistaken. Just looked like a lot of Earth bending to me.

Edit 2: I'm definitely mistaken. Man I forgot that King Bumi was in season 1.
There was parts with the Earth Kingdom in season 1 setting quite a bit of future events up, even if the major focus on the Earth Kingdoms situation was not until season 2.

Sokka was sexist, it was literally part of his character and his early story arc as the original show did show how he was wrong.

Not surprising unfortunately even basic storytelling like that is apparently still too much for these Neo Puritans who at the same time have pretty much killed comedy to the point Jerry Seinfeld refused to do college campuses and good comedy movies are pretty much non existent because of the backlash against the very concept of comedy and making fun of people.

Okay its not bad............surprisingly its not childish more dark especially the first episode. Showcasing how terrifying the fire nation can be.

Its not good as well. CGI is crap as fuck there are some missing pieces and it seems theyre expecting you to know the story. They threw in some scenes that

was never in the series

But this is just the first episode.

Characters aren't allowed to grow.

Growing is for sinners.

Hot take: They should have made creative liberties and had everyone be older by ~5 years. A young adult theme of Avatar would be a fresh take. Not too interested in watching the same show again in live-action.
