Thread: Audio-Pad |OT| Sounds about right
Official Thread
You can get desktop stands for speakers that just lift them a bit, like a foot if you want to get them closer to ear height. Like this, but I think I've seen prettier ones as well.

Might be a simple solution.

Peter Tyson is a very well regarded vender, been around for years. Richer Sounds of course is well established. Don't think you can wrong either way.

Oh cheers for that man, appreciate the help a lot. I decided to go with Peter Tyson because they offer 5 year warranty on the M20 as standard whereas with Richer Sounds I'd have to pay £37 because its (seemingly) not included in their VIP Club.

I've tried to order but their finance company is being annoying AF, won't let me pay my deposit, I don't even need it really I just thought I can use the buy now pay later period to let me pay it in a few installments instead of all at once and save money at the same time, wish I'd never bothered now ha.

I'll sort it out tomorrow by calling them.

I gave up on Peter Tyson's shitty finance company and just bought the Q Accoustics M20 set yesterday, it arrives tomorrow!

I decided to just order another IKEA LACK table for the other side of my TV unit where I will put the right speaker and my PS5 + Switch, with the soundbar subwoofer underneath the table, should look pretty nice. I also ordered this for the speakers to reduce vibrations and resonance from the TV unit below the left speaker, the cable clips are a nice wee bonus to keep my speaker cable attached to the back of the TV unit and off the ground/away from my many (many) power cables down the back of the unit:

I had this little fellow with me during our vacation:

marshall04k0v.jpg

Bluetooth speaker. I didn't use it for over two years and it still had like 60% of battery life when I turned it on. Really enjoy the sound of this little wonder. It's not a huge party speaker, but gets loud enough and doesn't fuck up the sound like most other speakers when turning the volume up. Great, natural sound. And I simply love the design, with the leather handle.

For me, it strikes a great balance between size, sound quality and design. It offers 20h of battery life and charges very fast via USB C.

Finally got my new speakers and finished my stereo setup. Sold the Hugo TT2 and some headphones to fund a pair of ATC SCM40's.
Missus wasn't happy, they are huge in person. I was like 'ah, they're only a metre high'. But these are chunky boys! Gonna spend the weekend going through my music.

Haha yeah I can imagine, I operate a system called WAF at work (I sell TVs), the bigger/thicker the TV lower the WAF.

WAF = Wife Acceptance Factor

Looks nice! My wife would go nuts.

What headphones did you sell for it?

Not really a music audiophile, but I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on gaming Headsets?

I hear nothing but amazing things about these.

Love me some audio gear. I'm a fanboy for Polk speakers and Sony headphones

God, I'm poor 😂

Build as you go man. That's half the fun.

I love how you can get truly amazing sound with headphones for >500 bucks (+DAC & Amp though). Here's a recommendation from one of my favorite audio-YouTubers:

Those Polk speakers look amazing!

I had some hifiman headphones for a time. They are a seriously comfortable, very light on the head.

After owning a bunch of headphones, comfort became one of the most important factors for me. I kinda regret selling my Shure SRH1840. They were the lightest feeling and most comfortable headphones I ever tried, just amazing. Sound was also very good, but the bass was too weak unfortunately. Still, for music that doesn't need a lot of bass, they were great.

Got a new AVR on the way tomorrow

Nothing fancy but who needs fancy

YAMAHA RX V385

I'm a Yamaha/Polk stan. My last receiver was Yamaha, as is my subwoofer.

I should figure out how I wanna route the wires for my surrounds as well. Go full hog

It doesn't support 4k/120 it seems. Do you plan to use earc or video passthrough?

My television only does 4k at 60hz

Probably for the better. 4k/120 is where the problems start.

My Sony TV glitched in 120 fps with Nvidia drivers newer than 472.12, but it was fixed with adding VRR mode on TV. But VRR mode was disabling local dimming, so picture was shit. This was fixed also with the last firmware update, thankfully.

Choosing the receiver wasn't an easy task for me. I've spent a lot of time comparing different units and reading forums and user feedback. People reporting VRR doesn't work with video passthrough, or earc is lagging. Or previous lineup receivers doesn't work with 4k/120 showing black picture because of the chip. And just the latest receivers finally work with 4k/120 without much problems.

It's much easier with consoles, with PC not so much. But I've got the perfect setup finally with Denon x1700h, everything works.

I run my consoles directly to my new television and do optical out now

Shouldn't be a hang up for me for the time being

Polk Audio Monitor 40 Series II Bookshelf Speaker (Black, Pair) - Big Sound, High Performance | Perfect for Small or Medium Size Rooms https://a.co/d/22BuAlz

Breh I might go for it
I'm not a surround sound kinda guy. Maybe down the road with spatial audio / dolby atmos starting to become more common in the music world.

Accessories4Less has good deals on audio gear usually.

I'd like to hear some Martin Logans some day. It is a dream of mine.

One of my coworkers was discussing Paradigm speakers. I've heard good things but I'm already fairly invested in the Polk ecosystem

From what I've read these Monitor 40s should pair well with my center speaker, the Polk CS-1 Series II.

I don't think it's smart to mix and match speakers too much if your ultimate goal is tonal fluidity.

People seem to credit Polk as more of a home theater brand than an audiophile brand... but I'll be damned if both don't sound stellar even with my current rig

Oh hello. I did not see this thread before. 🤓

I'll post my current set-up in another post in the future.

My other headphones are HD800s, HD600, Beyerdynamic T1 (2nd Gen), modded Fostex t50 with marble wood cups and a pair of Stax 404.
I'm driving the headphones with a Hugo TT2.
As well as headphones, I've recently gotten into nearfield sound, as I'm permanent WFH now, so wanted a wicked sound setup in my studio space.
I have a pair of ATC SCM11's driven by a PS Audio S300 Power Amp, with an ADI-2 DAC for pre amp.

This has been a bit of a life long pursuit for me. I went from a ghetto blaster, to a twin deck making my own compilations, to a midi system, the discovery of separates then fancy over ear headphones. It's been a great journey.

Absolutely gorgeous set-up here, man. I am jealous.

I want to try electrostatic so badly. I only just recently heard planar magnetic headphones for the first time when crinicle released his Diokos.

If you think this here is about spending too much money on stuff, you obviously haven't seen my Wrist Watch OT.
Link pls.

Polk is legit in my book. Might be similar to Klipsch where their consumer grade stuff is less interesting and their audiophile stuff is its own thing.

Also, I am a bit surprised you like the studio monitor sound. I would have pegged you more as like a Klipsch Forte kinda guy

Thanks man!
I know your responding to another poster, but the ATC speakers, both SCM40 and 11 both have a studio monitor sound, as ATC are primarily a brand for sound engineering. To be honest it's pretty close to the Electrostat sort of sound. Not very bass heavy, with extremely precise clarity and imaging, nothing gets crowded no matter how busy the song. Now I'm used to that sort of sound signature, I find thicker sounding speakers less satisfying.

Audiophiles are very trusting. I spoke for the first time with a guy selling boutique audio gear on Thursday. Offered to send me some power cables to try, aswell as a 'Synchronizable Digital Audio Master Clock', they arrived today.

Just plugged the most fancy of the power cables in. My mind's blown. Sounds like a different stereo.
Crazy stuff, my wallet is fucked. This shit is going on the never never to be dealt with at a time yet to be determined.

Hard to find "audiophiles" who don't look like utter creeps

After the power cables made a huge difference to the sound I'm going to explore the world of fuses. These apparently make a big impact

Gonna stick one in the power amp and plug of the cable feeding it to start off.
Will report back!

Actually interested in this. Regarding headphones, cables don't make a difference at all from my testing. With speaker set ups, it's different though.
