I’ve been holding off on Valhalla on the whole. I like Odyssey pretty well, but Valhalla never really caught my eye. The biggest problem with odyssey was tying it to the AC series. It stood well enough on its own without trying to fit it in with all the lore baggage of the series.
Maybe I'm just a crazy old coot but I still think the faces look way better in AC: Unity than any of the last three (3) AC games (I didnt play Syndicate), I know the animation is better but because they said they dont use face capture as much anymore to speed up development but the lighting is so much better to me and that makes it better overall:
Compare it to the faces of any of the men in the new trailer. This guy's eyebrows are amazing and thats just a random dude in one mission compared to main characters in the new AC. I know there are other technical improvements in new AC vs. Unity but its still better overall to me, feels more like a real human. When I look at the new AC I just see potato heads.
If the next-gen AC thats coming (hopefully) doesn't wow me like Unity did then I'm out for a while, the graphics/animation just keeps disappointing me over and over and thats what I used to love so much about AC. Just look at the rest of the video I posted the parkour is like 900x better than current AC parkour, animation-wise, even if its less versatile ie you can't climb every wall in the old ones, but then again that was part of the game to find the right path upwards.
Yeah, Unity is the pinnacle of the series in terms of visuals. Other than the horrendous LOD settings for buildings, it looks absolutely incredible even 7 years later and definitely better in many (most?) ways than the open world AC games.
I've put in about six hours or so and am quite enjoying it! It's not doing anything revolutionary, but it provides a big new area with new characters, new storylines, and some new abilities while preserving the overall quality of presentation as the main campaign.
