Thread: Arcane: League of Legends Season 2 Full Trailer
Hype Thread

OH. HELL. YEAH. Arcane was a pleasant surprise and one of the greatest animated media I've ever seen. Hopefully this 2nd and final season kills it.

I never watched the first season. My wife brought up wanting to see it a few times, but an animated show featuring danger hairs seems like a risk.

Trust me when I say that despite the danger hair characters, Arcane is one of the best written and most beautifully animated shows. I'm still shocked that something associated with League of Legends was such a kickass piece of media.

Just watched the first 3 episodes of Season 2. AWESOME. Story just picks up where the last episode of season 1 left off, with some wild twists and turns that I saw coming and some I didn't. And is just me or has the animation gotten better this time around?

Character work remains as nuanced as ever with no clear cut good guys and bad guys and the conflict getting muddier than before. The next 3 episodes drop in Nov 16, so I hope it keeps the quality up.

Awesome cheers fot the heads up Horace I didn't realise it had dropped. Don't know a thing about the game, but the first season was pretty good.

As I've said numerous time before, I have NEVER played a game of League of Legends in my life. Yet I enjoyed the fuck out of Arcane, because it focuses on just telling a story rather than shoving memberberries for fans of the game.

Welp. Just watched all the rest of the season. And all I feel is... disappointment.

It actually started off well, with the end of Act 2 hinting at Jinx becoming the new symbol and leader of the Undercity, but then Warwick gets introduced and we find out it's Vander. This leads to her and Vi reconciling for the sake of saving their adoptive father from his cruel fate. Except that it completely derails Jinx's character arc of becoming a full blown villain as it was built up in the first season. I'm really not a huge fan of turning bad guys into anti-heroes just because they're popular.

Then there's all the stupid subplots which are hastily built up and lead to unsatisfying conclusions; such Mel being kidnapped by the Black Rose discovering her mage powers, and of course, Viktor turning into the Arcane Skynet and suddenly he's the big bad everyone should take note of. None of these feel well thought out or earned and it seems like they were hastily slapped together to give us an epic finale.

Not all of it is bad mind you. The art and animation are still top notch. And Episode 7 for me is best of the season as
it's an alternate universe romp where Ekko comes to a world where Hextech was never invented and Zaun and Piltover are having peaceful relations. Sure Vi is dead here but he gets to have a romance with a grown up Powder who never became Jinx. It's a sweet episode that's a good respite from all the darkness of the rest of the season. And coincidentally, Ekko is the one character who arc isn't butchered just to fit the plot.

All in all, a huge letdown from season 1. I expected better Riot.

Finally finished this slog of a season. I rewatched S1 to jog my memory and the quality gap is huge.

Without getting into spoilers, they jettisoned most of the good character work from S1 in favor of bullshit anime trash. Stupid overdone visuals meant to try and fool you into thinking something interesting is happening but it's really not. It's just visual noise with just shit setups and total nonsense behind it. Its dangling something shiny in front of your face to try and fool you.

Fuck this season. Fuck it right in it's stupid ass

THIS. The character writing was exceptional in the first season of Arcane that I found it hard to believe this series was based on a videogame. But more than that, Season 1 had one of the greatest antagonists I've ever seen in fictional media.

Silco was an incredible character whom you both hate and empathize with in equal measure. He does some pretty horrid stuff, but there's no denying he has genuine love for his adopted daughter Jinx and cares deeply for the fate of the Undercity. He was always going to be a tough act to follow after being offed in the Season 1 finale.

NONE of the characters in Season 2 even come close to matching Silco's brilliance. I had hoped Jinx would become the season 2's big bad after the way they set it up in the first one. Alas, the writers chickened out and turned her into an anti-hero because of her popularity. They tried setting up other characters to be the big bad; such Ambessa Medarda, whom I found annoying and insufferable, and Viktor, who loses all the interesting character traits he had in the first season in order to turn him into a twisted Messiah figure.

Season 2 was a rushed mess full of a bunch of meandering unclear bullshit. Multiverse horseshit on top of it, which seems to only exist to give them an out for all the shit they fucked up that doesnt match the game's lore.

Massive disappointment.

I would also like to add, I don't buy the big lesbian romance here at all, Vi and Caitlyn have no chemistry, Caitlyn is a psycho loose cannon who wanted to do some abhorrent shit, and the show just glosses over it. Vi doesnt even address her abuse. To top it all they have sex in her obv mentally deranged sister's prison cell where she was pulling pieces of herself off, right after Jinx basically says bye sis imma kill myself now. It's so gross.
