Ensuring Transparency
Ahead of its official unveiling at tomorrow's Disney & Marvel Games Showcase, new rumours have emerged surrounding Skydance Media and Amy Hennig's upcoming Marvel title.

Announced last October, few official details have so-far been shared on the project beyond the fact it'll be a "narrative-driven, blockbuster action-adventure" set in the Marvel universe.

However, Marvel rumour collator MCU Status is now reporting that Hennig's game takes place during World War 2, and will see Captain America and Black Panther taking on the forces of Hydra. Eurogamer understands this to be correct.

Luckily, we should have first official details on the project very soon, with Disney having already confirmed it'll be giving viewers a "sneak peek" at Hennig's Marvel project during its game-focused digital showcase, airing tomorrow, 9th September, at 9pm in the UK/1pm PT.

UPDATE

Skydance New Media released sneak peek teaser trailer for its Marvel universe ensemble game, which reveals it to be a World War II-era narrative-driven adventure game starring a young Captain America (Steve Rogers), Black Panther (Azzuri), Gabriel Jones, and Nanali. An official title, platforms, and a release date for the game were not announced.
Here is an overview of the game, via Skydance New Media:

Skydance New Media and Marvel Entertainment's upcoming narrative-driven, ensemble adventure game set in the Marvel Universe, which marks the first initiative from the new AAA game studio, features an original story that will take players on a World War II-era adventure with four playable heroes at different points in the story:

  • A young Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America
  • Azzuri, T'Challa's grandfather and the World War II-era Black Panther
  • Gabriel Jones, a U.S. soldier and member of the Howling Commandos
  • Nanali, leader of the fledgling Wakandan Spy Network
Players can look forward to intuitive controls and exhilarating second-to-second gameplay that captures the action and excitement of Marvel, inspired by landmark comics, television, and films, as they navigate this all-new globe-trotting adventure.

"We're so grateful for all the enthusiasm and support we've received from fans, and we're thrilled to finally unveil a first glimpse of the game during this year's D23 Expo," said Skydance New Media president Amy Hennig in a press release. "Marvel has been an incredible partner throughout the creative process as we develop an original story and build an exciting new team of characters. We hope fans are intrigued by this sneak peek, and we're excited to share more down the road."

Marvel Games vice president and creative director Bill Rosemann added, "Our D23 Expo reveal is only the beginning of the action-packed adventure awaiting Marvel fans. Amy and the Skydance New Media team have a deep love and respect for our characters, have poured themselves into the core comic book inspiration, and will harness their incredible storytelling skills to craft an all-new, thrilling narrative experience. Stay tuned over the next months as we'll share additional looks at our four heroes, two worlds, and one war."

Never played any of the Uncharted or Soul Reaver games, but I've heard good things about Amy Hennig. Hopefully she'll be respectful of the characters and their legacies, unlike some people. *cough*Cuckmann*cough*

After the shitshow that was Avengers, Marvel better give us something akin to 2011's Captain America Super Soldier, which was a pretty decent game.

Don't have any convidence in Amy. After Uncharted, she only did BF Hardline and is working on Forspoken, which seems hideous regarding its writing tbh.

This is a concept that's been done to great success in comics before.

It could work out well in a game, but I doubt it will. I have no faith anymore.

Captain America I can understand because, well, he was alive back then. But I don't get how Black Panther will fit into all this, unless they're using the quantum time machine vortex thingybob from Endgame.

Super Soldier was a well done Arkham Asylum clone and easily the best of the Marvel games that Sega put out.

I hope to God it's not T'challa, as I hate time travel scenarios since they can be hotbed for bad writing. Most likely it'll be T'challa's grandfather, King Azzuri, who was the Black Panther during World War 2.

It really was. It even impressed Chris Evans that he told the Russo Bros to change Cap's fighting style to more resemble the game.

I could be wrong but isn't Black Panther an inherited title for the Kings of Wakanda, and not the alter ego of the character T'challa?
Could be the Black Panther ruling during WWII era, and not T'challa.

Yeah, it's passed down.

Not much is shown though I presume the game flips between WWII in Paris and Wakanda, presumably with Hydra after vibranium (at a guess) and likely Capt discovering this and heading there to then team up with Black Panther to lay the smackdown. Until we know more could go either way. Still surprised we just got the reveal and no footage.
