Thread: Amy Hennig brings in Project Ragtag co-writer for a new "AAA story-driven action-adventure game"

Roving Reporter
Two of the key creative minds from the canceled Star Wars Project Ragtag have reunited to work on a new single-player action-adventure game. Ragtag writer Todd Stashwick revealed on Twitter that he's working with Amy Hennig, who co-created and led the Uncharted series before leaving Naughty Dog in 2014, on her new studio's first new project. Skydance New Media was formed jointly by Hennig and former EA executive Julian Beak in 2019, and this is the most we've heard of its new project yet.

Stashwick kept specific details on the new project brief, though he did link to a pair of job openings for the project which reveal a little bit more. The listings for a senior animation engineer and senior software engineer state that the studio is "laser-focused on premium action-adventure games with rich, compelling stories" and that its first productions "will tap into the traditions of adventure cinema." Skydance New Media also plans to make products that are "best-in-class for both visual fidelity and innovative gameplay" across PC and consoles.

As for this project in particular, Skydance says it will be "a high quality, AAA single-player story-driven action-adventure game built using the Unreal Engine." This doesn't sound too far off from the vision for Project Ragtag, which would have been a Star Wars caper story starring an ensemble of heroes all working together in parallel. We'll never know what Ragtag could have ultimately become (though it was apparently further along than most people realized) but it's exciting to know Hennig and Stashwick are back at it again with a new studio and project.

Hopefully we won't need to wait another two or three years to add Skydance's new project to our big list of video game release dates.
Amy Hennig is a video game goddess. Yaaaaaas Qweeeeeen!

Seriously though, she is great. The Kain games are among the best ever made.

Looking forward to whatever she's working on.

She worked on the Legacy of Kain stuff?
She worked on the Legacy of Kain stuff?

Amy Hennig worked for Crystal Dynamics, and directed the Legacy of Kain series from Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver to Legacy of Kain: Defiance. Initially, she was credited as the design manager on Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain. She was credited as the director and producer, and for the original game concept and script, on Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. For Soul Reaver 2 and Legacy of Kain: Defiance, she was credited for direction, story, and dialogue.

Mmm... Legacy of Kain... MMMMMMMmmm...

I'd pretty much buy anything with Amy Hennig's name attached to it. I felt like Naughty Dog was a much more prolific company under her tenure, and when you look back at her portfolio over the years, she's pretty legendary.
Will be day one purchase.
Say whatever you want about Amy but Uncharted turned to shit after she left/was forced out.
Yep, Uncharted 4 was a gorgeous bore. I had to force myself to finish it and I loved the series to death. Truth be told, I wasn't all that impressed with UC3 either.
Bro, she was Legacy of Kain from Soul Reaver on.

Damn, I had no idea. Those games were great!
It's a Marvel game.

Skydance New Media, the new interactive division of Skydance Media helmed by award-winning writer and director Amy Hennig, announced today a partnership with Marvel Entertainment to develop a narrative-driven, blockbuster action-adventure game, featuring a completely original story and take on the Marvel Universe. This marks the first initiative from the new AAA game studio, which was formed by Hennig and Electronic Arts veteran Julian Beak to pioneer a new category of story-focused interactive entertainment—a groundbreaking convergence of games, film, and television.

“I can’t imagine a better partner than Marvel for our first game,” said Hennig, President, Skydance New Media. “The Marvel Universe epitomizes all the action, mystery and thrills of the pulp adventure genre that I adore and lends itself perfectly to an interactive experience. It’s an honor to be able to tell an original story with all the humanity, complexity, and humor that makes Marvel characters so enduring and to enable our players to embody these heroes that they love.”

“Amy has been setting the bar for narrative adventure games for decades and we are happy to be collaborating with the talented and experienced New Media team at Skydance,” said Jay Ong, Executive Vice President & Head of Marvel Games. “Their ambition and vision for making innovative entertainment using beloved Marvel IP was obvious from our first meeting. We’re excited to share more with Marvel fans when the time is right.”

To create this all-new interactive experience, Skydance New Media has assembled an accomplished crew of developers with decades of AAA experience in action and adventure gaming, as well as a diverse team of creative consultants from the worlds of film, television, and comics. The Skydance New Media team is laser-focused on creating high-fidelity, richly interactive experiences crafted for traditional gaming platforms as well as emerging streaming services and designed to be appealing, inviting, and accessible to a global audience.

“We are enormously excited to be working inside the Marvel Universe to craft a rich narrative of our own,” said Beak, Executive Vice President & GM, Skydance New Media. “Jay and his team at Marvel Games are helping us make the best experiences imaginable.”

I'll believe it when I see it, there has been a lot of talk these past years but no game.
Never played any of the Legacy of Kain or Uncharted games, but I know of Amy Hennig's reputation among gamers. I trust her to make the most out of a Marvel property. And Marvel gaming is looking pretty good again after the success of Guardians of the Galaxy.
Legacy of Kain is honestly one of the best gaming IPs ever. Some of them haven't aged well but I'd still recommend them if you can and the good news is Blood Omen finally got re-released so you can play the entire series now.
