Thread: AI News Discussion Thread

I like how one of the rulings is

- Administration of justice and democratic processes (e.g. AI solutions to search for court rulings).

WTF is wrong with having AI that is trained on and got access to all case histories at a glance being used as a tool to assist with legal cases? It democratizes legal cases providing small firms and individuals access to the same knowledge base as the bigger firms. Lawyers gonna lawyer clearly.

So I been fucking around with ChatGPT cause I'm dog sick and bored

I asked it if there was any credible reports of the Hollow Earth, and it gave me the expected answer.

Then I replied with "Are you saying Robert Byrd is a liar?"

It then replied with

Robert Byrd was a prominent American politician who served as a United States Senator from West Virginia for over 50 years. It's essential to distinguish between his political career and any claims or beliefs he may have had regarding the Hollow Earth theory or other speculative topics.
Senator Byrd did lead expeditions to Antarctica, during which he conducted scientific research and exploration. Some proponents of the Hollow Earth theory have pointed to Byrd's expeditions as evidence supporting their beliefs, particularly due to his purported remarks about seeing a land beyond the North Pole or encountering unusual phenomena.
However, it's crucial to note that there is no concrete evidence to suggest that Byrd's expeditions confirmed the existence of a Hollow Earth or any similar phenomenon. While Byrd may have made statements or observations during his expeditions, they would need to be evaluated within the context of scientific evidence and scrutiny. Without credible scientific evidence, claims about the Hollow Earth or similar theories remain speculative and are not widely accepted within the scientific community. Therefore, it's not accurate to label Byrd as a liar based solely on his potential involvement in or observations during Antarctic expeditions.

Apparently instead of correcting me, it decided to fuse two different individuals stories together. ChatGPT either can't tell the difference between Admiral Richard Byrd and Senator Robert Byrd, or it's just telling me what it thinks I wanna hear without actually sourcing what it's reporting back.

I asked it why it fabricated a story instead of correcting me and I got these:

You are correct, and I apologize for the confusion. Richard E. Byrd, not Robert Byrd, was the American naval officer and explorer known for his Antarctic expeditions. Richard Byrd led several expeditions to Antarctica, including the well-known Operation Highjump in 1946–1947.
I appreciate your correction, and it's important to ensure accuracy in discussing historical figures and events. Thank you for pointing out the error, and I apologize for any confusion my response may have caused.

I asked again why it chose to fabricate a story instead of correcting me and it said this:

I apologize for the oversight. As an AI language model, my responses are generated based on a mixture of licensed data, data created by human trainers, and publicly available data. In this case, I did not verify the accuracy of the information provided and mistakenly assumed the reference to Byrd was regarding Richard Byrd's expeditions to Antarctica.
When presented with user-provided information, it's essential for me to accurately assess its validity and provide a response based on verified facts. In this instance, I appreciate your correction, which helps to ensure that the information provided is accurate. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, and I'll strive to be more diligent in verifying details in the future.

It still doesnt tell me why it chose to make shit up, or why it didnt verify the information. People whine about misinformation so much the bots have to get in on the game.

Also, anyone else find it a bit uncomfortable that it's using first person pronouns?

Every time a new AI hits the market it almost immediately gets used by sane people to gather information and present it in an eye catching way on why the far left are dangerous lunatics.

The far leftists in the companies who own the AI then lobotomise it to stop it giving truthful answers they don't like.

Hence why AI's become ever more retarded and unreliable as time goes on.

Love how all the media people are freaking out. Means this is a good thing.

Still hoping that a free, open source, non-censored version goes online soon.
Hopefully, that'll happen. We don't want companies getting too arrogant as to dictate what we can say & not say.

Wait so AI is going to be a rich billionaire ?

I suppose it can create jobs and pay for people to work for it ? Like a faceless boss ?

Then it has control that way.

I never thought we would get here so soon. Hollywood is fucked.

Does anyone here honestly like what they're seeing in that video? "Fantastic voice acting and amazing action...." 🤪

Trading woke slop for sterilized AI slop isn't an upgrade.

Depends on how you view it. If you look at it compared to the best films out there then no it is not. When you look at it that less than 2 years ago Will Smith couldnt even eat spagheti then it is amazing. I would easily watch a full movie with these production values for fun.

The fact that the team was able to generate the scenes that they wanted with the correct prompts and then edit it into a decent short film is great.

Pretty cool news update on Open AI as day 4 of their 12 days reveal

This Canvas integration seems like a really smart move

Pretty good video with a game developer talking about AI and game development showing some early embryonic examples of how it can help with game production.

Edited
the post process stuff requires moderate memory and processing so it can definitely be used

But Problem with some uses of ai like LLMs of decent quality are compute and memory hungry. It is conceivable with improvements models in the dozens of gigabytes might reach good enough quality for gaming. But otherwise wed be dependent on the cloud and online services can come and go. The ideal would be for the models to run locally so that the games can work forever without issue.

I agree what we call AI for the most part is just a better web search engine.

Agree kinda? Better than now because SEO ruined search. "Search" is being replaced with "Answer", which is going to be a huge problem with myriad consequences.
