Didn't see a thread on it. Been in development since 2022 or earlier. There's a campaign which is pretty decent as far as RTS campaigns go, and there's a Survival mode.



Real time strategy plus horde defense. Feels like a lost gem from the early 00s.

I've been playing it solo. It has a co-op mode though.

I watched some gameplay videos. Has a lot of cool concepts. But damn did the gameplay look SLOW. It felt like everyone had the game speed on half.

I dunno, it feels as fast as the average late 90s/ early 00s RTS. Since the game is focused on tower defense, maybe it was a design choice.

Thanks, I've added this to my wishlist. It's not the price, as it is less than $10, I just have so many games that I am backlogged on right now. That, and this year I am really trying to save some money and put it towards my mortgage so I am being very intentional with my spending.

How does it stack up to other RTS? I've seen comparisons to There are Billions.

Also is The Last Spell an RTS or more a hybrid?

The Last Spell is 100% turn based, played on a grid map. One of the best grid based strategy RPGs of the last decade, imo

Age of Darkness is pretty solid. It would've been a B-tier option in the mid 00s compared to other RTSs of that time. The sound, voiceovers, and music are good. I like the visual style a lot. The campaign isn't as fun as playing Survival, in my opinion, because it is structured like a step by step tutorial, slowly introducing you to new units and building types. But They Are Billions (and virtually every other RTS….) is guilty of the same thing.

Your Hero units are supported by smaller generic units that get killed pretty easily. It's kinda like Age of Mythology or Warcraft 3 in that sense. Hero units have special attacks so generally you're babysitting them and triggering abilities after cooldown expires.

If you specifically like horde-defense/tower-defense style games that emphasize base-building — like Stronghold series, or They Are Billions, or Total Annihilation/SupCom — then you will probably like Age of Darkness.
