Although it's been two years since the last time dinosaurs roamed the Earth in 2022's Jurassic World Dominion, Universal Pictures has hardly kept its biggest franchise trapped in amber.

The studio is deep into the development of an all-new Jurassic World movie and has David Koepp back at the keyboard. Koepp was the writer of the original 1993 Jurassic Park, famously directed by Steven Spielberg, and its sequel, 1997's The Lost World: Jurassic Park.

The project, which has been flying under the radar, is far enough along, and the script in a well-liked shape, that the studio is whispering of a possible 2025 release date.

There is no director on board, but Frank Marshall, the veteran and celebrated producer who oversaw the Jurassic World trilogy, is back producing, as is another Jurassic vet, Patrick Crowley. Spielberg will executive produce via his Amblin Entertainment banner.

It is unclear what form the relaunch is taking. It is known to be launching a "new Jurassic era," per sources, with an all-new storyline. That would seem to rule out the return of the characters played by Jurassic World stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. And it seems characters featured in the original Jurassic Park movies, played by Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, would not be involved.

The fact that it's being called a new "Jurassic World" instead of "Jurassic Park" may also be telling. That would suggest that the franchise is likely not taking a back-to-basics approach but could go to parts unknown.

Executive vp of production development Sara Scott and creative executive of production development Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project for Universal.

Koepp is the veteran screenwriter whose credits range from the original Mission: Impossible (1996) film and the first Spider-Man movie (2002) to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) and last year's Indy entry, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

He also penned Steven Soderbergh's inverted ghost story Presence, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival Friday. Koepp and Soderbergh also have a hot project in the marketplace titled Black Bag that is generating intense interest from buyers.

I really hope it is a MAJOR deviation from the Jurassic World films. The best of the three was the first and it was kinda lame. The whole training dinos for military application is fucking dumb.

If they are not going to do a real, full on reboot of the franchise (and maybe follow the book this time), then it needs to be something that at least makes sense.

Here is my $.02 on a story. The owners of the carcass of InGen have created a dino hunting park. A place where big game hunters can pay astronomical prices to bag the most exotic game. You follow the original JP situation, the park is not 100% and kind of in a soft opening. A handful of hunters (and some fluff people like reporters or such) are invited to the park to 'test it out'. The park is broken into two sections, herbivores and carnivores. The soft opening is only in the herbivores section.
And you guessed it, there is a system failure and the entire park 'opens up' and the carnivores are lose. Now you have a logical story on why there are a bunch of rifle toting bros who need to survive a kill or be killed adventure. No dumb ass kids. No stupid military or crime subplots. Just dudes fighting dinos. And again they came to hunt, so there will be no automatic weapons or such.

I like it. It's basically Predator but with carnivorous dinos!

News literally says it'll be more Jurassic World :/

Last movie was really damn embarrassing. I think the franchise is over. They did everything they could possibly do with it.

The t rex is non binary and goes on a rampage after being misgendered by the asian scientest. Dr malcolm comes back but this time is played by a black female perferably the chick from the Marvels.
Jokes on you, Dr Malcolm is actually Ian Malcolm's black daughter....in the future.

I mean Dr Malcolm warned them all at that dinner scene. Its kind of ironic how the message of the first film about over commercialization has come to reality.

Honestly just remake.the first one its been nearly 30 years. AI Arnolds face over every character even the Dinos and shit.it out in cinemas.

I just read the premise of this film… lord is it a guaranteed turd sandwich. It's more of the same goofy Jurassic World bs.

Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet's ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.

Johansson plays skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett, contracted to lead a skilled team on a top-secret mission to secure genetic material from the world's three most massive dinosaurs. When Zora's operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized by marauding aquatic dinos, they all find themselves stranded on an island where they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that's been hidden from the world for decades.

Please, please, please let this be the last one. Then given the IP a small break and reboot with something that more closely follows the plot and tone of the book.

Jurassic World was an okay enough soft reboot. The next two were okay enough popcorn flicks and nothing more. But stop, just stop. This plot sounds full retard.

I'm with you on the first bit. JW was not too terrible (minus the military Dino stuff). But the second and third were barely watchable. I think it took me 4 or 5 sittings to watch the last one. They are just so god damned bad.

Honestly, after the original, nothing in the franchse has been that good. Lost World departed way too far from the source material and was nearly nonsensical. Jurassic Park III was a lame cash in. Jurassic World was probably better than anything aside from the original. It was at least cool to see the fully realized park, and the plot was okay enough, good action scenes, and it was before BDH got whatever cosmetic surgery that made her look stupid in the next two lol.

They would be better served trying to reboot the entire franchise at this point, assuming they can't just leave it alone. Once you try to move past the "theme park gone wrong story", it just gets too difficult to suspend your disbelief. The first one was iconic. Lost World was all right as a sequel, minus the fucking black girl magic gymnastics. Everything since then has gotten progressively worse.

If you like reading. Definitely check out the Lost World. Sooooo much better than the film. Like orders of magnitude better. It pales in comparison to the first book, but should be expected when Spielberg paid Crichton to write it even though he didn't really want to.

Ya another female bad ass movie. God so sick of that trope.
Please insert LGTBQ and diversity into the movie so it can bomb and kill the franchise.
First was God tier. Second was flawed but an ok rental. 3rd sucked. Reboot was meh aside from memberries and Pine. Rest were hot garbage.
People liked the first one because it was a masterclass in directing from the GOAT and the special effects were ground breaking. We don't need hybrid military super secret amazingballs dinosaurs. In the first one them being dinosaurs was enough.
