Getting my list ready.

Also if anyone is interested, looks like The Profane Exhibit is finally seeing the light of day. Probably will get a copy next week.

No. Probably not. But I did come for appreciation of the In the Mouth of Madness reference. Such a fantastically dark film.

I am sure I will end up watching some horror films next month. But unless I binge a series I will probably only watch a couple.

In. Right on time too. Every year I try to complete this challenge but so far I haven't been able to get past 18 films. Typically I'll fall asleep about a fourth of the time during this month before starting the movie. Then I end up having to play catch-up before the third week even begins. This year a bit more planning went in during the month of September

Some good YouTube channels for horror audio for the next month:

Dark Somnium (long creepypastas and r/NoSleep stories with good production value)
Horrorbabble (weird fiction/horror book readings)
Dr. Creepen (guy sounds like Sam Neill)
Horror on the Rocks (shorter pulpy horror creepypastas that has been growing on me)

Use yt-dlp to rip the vids into podcasts

My best recent Halloween memory was a Carpenter horror movie marathon. Halloween, Apocalypse trilogy, and Vampires (first time for all of them except The Thing). Loved Prince of Darkness and even goofy Vampires, but the other three are basically perfect imo. That was also when the two girls/women invaded my house briefly lol perfect timing before watching Halloween the first time.

Need to get Christine and The Fog one of these days. Maybe the Scream series? I would like a werewolf movie (saw The Howling a couple years ago).

I have not had a chance to have a Halloween movie night in a couple years, but I am hoping this year nothing shitty will happen at work. I am back on keto heavy now, but if things line up I will probably go crazy on candy and treats for a couple days/nights. And popcorn. Lots of popcorn.

Putting the finishing touches on my list. I'm gonna take a similar path this thread again. More relaxed posting style here and the full review (if I have the energy) in the official horror thread. Here's a rough list of what I'm aiming for this October:

1) Night of the Living Dead
2) The Taking of Deborah Logan
3) Nosferatu
4) The Tunnel
5) An American Werewolf in London
6) Hellbender
7) Salem's Lot

9) You're Next
10) Jacob's Ladder
11) Stir of Echoes
12) Burnt Offerings
13) Unwelcome
14) The Innocents
15) The Void
16) REC
17) The Bay
18) Dead and Buried
19) Troll Hunter
20) Carnival of Souls
21) Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark
22) Into The Mouth of Madness

24) Banshee Chapter
25) Phantasm
26) Willow Creek
27) 1408
28) The Haunting
29) The Last Prayer
30) V/H/S Beyond
31) Halloween
32) The Thing
33) As Above So Below
34) Devil's Pass

45) The Devonsville Terror
46) Child's Play
47) Ginger Snaps
48) Alison's Birthday
49) The Banishing
50) Eyes of Fire

I finally got around to watching Late Night with the Devil.

Enjoyed it but it felt shallow compared to a novel I recently read called A Head Full of Ghosts, which was also involved a teenage girl possessed by a demon, and a TV show. The movie just felt shallow as hell compared to the depth of that.

Shit it's not October yet is it.

I've been wondering about Late Night With The Devil, it's been a popular new movie with horror fans for the last month or so. The guy on the cover looks identical to a friend of mine lol. But I heard that it was essentially a tamer version of Ghostwatch, which I've seen a handful of weeks ago. There's a book that caught my interest, I think I'll buy it this year. It's called, House of Darkness House of Light. One of the daughters who actually lived in the house that The Conjuring was based on goes in-depth about her family's haunted house and the events that took place all those years that they lived in it. She has some shocking stories about evil to tell. Just an interview of hers was enough to put me on edge

How did you like the scenes you were in? I'm going in blind n forgot what the film is about already after I read a short synopsis about five days ago. It should be a great horror film or at least I'm hoping because several have pointed out that it's worth the watch

The one that made it into the film was ok. Was a party that gets wild. So you see me talking to people an drinking a "beer" briefly.

But there was also a Bar/Club scene that got cut which was a lot of fun. Basically the main girl comes to the bar and does a bit of a monologue to everyone and then all hell breaks loose. I had a nice scene of running to the (old school) elevator to escape… only to find corpses inside. I then got killed off camera and got to play a corpse.

I did find being a stand in interesting. I didn't realize how much prep goes into each shot.

In all honesty it's a meh film. But it seems to have a bit of a cult following.

A podcast I listen to regularly called Bledsoe Said So did an episode with her (an amazing podcast btw, I strongly recommend checking it out in general). I listened to it a couple weeks ago. The main focus of the podcast is the occult, with special attention paid analyzing the occult references in pop culture. Probably my favorite podcast. Ryan's (one of the two hosts) dad is Chris Bledsoe, probably one of the most well known and respected UFO experiencers.

It's good. I didn't find it particularly scary, but it was entertaining.

It hits harder if you grew up in the 80s during the Satanic Panic, which I did.

The Warrens were basically Grifters and greatly embellished a lot of their "hauntings." As far as I know, only one of the kids of the family from the Conjuring House agrees with the Warren's take on things. The rest say it's complete bunk and most of the stuff never happened.

Last Podcast on the Left did a really good multi-part deep dive into the Warrens if you're interested in learning more.

@Ferdinand the Cowfish I've never heard of the Satanic Panic until just now. Only a handful of days ago, I'd just learned about the Phoenix Lights... Seriously can't wrap my mind around how I've never even heard about that phenomenon. Sounds like something straight out of a sci-fi horror flick. Hundreds of people saw it in real time as it happened too

The Taking of Deborah Logan is good. It's been a while since I watched a found footage sort of mockumentary style horror film so this was a nice selection to start off October right. FF is one of my favorite ways to capture events in these kinds of movies

Went and saw The Substance last night, very Cronenberg-esque style body horror. Demi Moore was fantastic. I do think it'll be a cult classic. I don't want to say too much because of spoilers, but if you enjoy body horror then it is definitely worth checking out.

I should add, it's not particularly scary in terms of classic horror scares but it's a fun thrill ride.

Strange Darling was listed as a horror, but it's more of a thriller. Again, very fun and I enjoyed it immensely. It's a nice 90 minute package with a fun narrative hook which ties into its central mystery. It was all shot on 35mm film which lends it a very classic looking aesthetic.

So far I have watched The Shining, Salem's Lot (79) and Salem's Lot (24), Oddity, and In A Violent Nature. Tonight is Long Legs.

Already two movies behind 😭 the plan now is to double up October 30th and on Halloween. Doubt I'll have the time to write up anything substantial even if I wanted to but my plan is to at least give some insights on the really good movies in the horror ot, eventually

Watched these ones so far: The Tunnel, 10/31 Part II, The Taking of Deborah Logan, Scream 3, Zombie, 31 (Rob Zombie)

I watched The Thing From another World this morning. Creepshow II a few days ago. Terrirfier 3 on monday

How was Terrifier 3? I've heard some really good things, but also complaints about them leaning into the alt-dimensional stuff a little too heavily. Never heard of Thing From Another World, will check that out. Creepshow II is one of my favorite movies of all time; it's aged very well.

If people are complaining about the supernatural elements, I assume they are only really fans of the 1st film, never watched the preceding shorts and didn't watch/like/remember the ending where Art returns from the dead.

It's not an 'alternate dimension', it's literally heaven and hell with full on demons and the Virgin Mary making a cameo. It's only a handful of scenes that go into it and help explain what's up with Sienna's chosen one status, sword and hallucinations. They also set up her getting a proper suit of bikini armour in the next films, not just the cosplay suit she wore in 2, which I am very much looking forward to seeing in 4 or 5.

I was wondering about that, I was specifically referring to Angry Joe's review. He seems to fall in the "better as T1 than T2" camp, but I thought T2 was incredible.

Same. T1 was a proof of concept, with some memorable scenes, but T2 felt like an improvement in every way, was an absolute blast and clearly made by someone with true adoration for the genre. Easily one of my favourite horrors of recent years, and T3 matches up to it IMO.
