Furiosa wasn't a bad movie, it just never reaches the awesome heights of Fury Road, which is one of my favorite movies of all time. I think the casting in Furiosa was very good though. Anya Taylor-Joy almost outshines Charlise Theron as Furiosa. Tom Burke was pretty good and Hemsworth completely loses himself in playing Dementus. The vehicle porn is still off the charts and there is one action sequence that can hang with anything in Fury Road so long as you don't mind a little CGI. The cinematography and shots are great too, there are so many moments in Furiosa that feel like I'm staring at a panel from a comic book.
Problem is, Furiosa runs a bit too long (the first hour fucking sucks), and the story doesn't resolve itself in a satisfying way. The movie doesn't end on a high note. I think Critical Drinker's review of Furiosa is incredibly on point. I don't always agree with his takes, but his thoughts on Furiosa are pretty accurate.
and for the record, I don't give a shit whether or not Mel Gibson is in a Mad Max movie. People whine so much about that. Batman isn't in The Penguin and I fucking love that show so far because it's fucking great. I didn't think Patterson as Batman and Jim Gordon as a black dude was a good idea in The Batman, but then I actually watched it and they pulled it off. A good movie is a good movie regardless of who is in it. That said, I'm not delusional, and I realize that Mel Gibson as Max not being in Furiosa probably didn't help it's box office appeal.
I don't know if I would call Twisters mediocre, but I did feel like the movie never really had a climactic, meaningful moment. When the movie came to an end I was like, "That's it?". I didn't think there was anything necessarily wrong with the movie, just that it never really peaked. I do want to watch the original at some point to see how much better it supposedly is.
I watched The Wild Robot again. It's so good. It's a bit of a slow starter, but worth staying with. The second half of the movie is way better than the first half and everything pays off nicely. I'm watching Officer Black Belt right now, it's good so far.
