Thread: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered announced for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC; now available

I agree gender labeling is a real shame. It wouldn't stop me getting it if I really wanted to, but yeah hard to feel it isn't a statement of intent or judgement on its audience.

At least its not as bad as the Tomb Raider remaster where the devs called the original developers racist in the opening splash screen lol.

Isn't the OG game still getting improved with mods on the reg?
Can anyone explain the point of this release (from a gamer's POV)?

Watched some streams. Not enough to make me jump back in. Combat looks dated. It will be interesting to see new players takes on the game.

Oblivion and Kindom Come II Deliverance are new examples of how wokeness/DEI will be doing things though hidden trojan horse releases.

Ie, hiding their woke content from any and all marketing before release. Expect more of this.

For what it's worth Im nearly 140hrs into Kingdom Come Deliverance II and have yet to see anything woke. Im aware that you can bang hans but I haven't had any opportunity for that come up, not sure how one achieves it. Banged a bunch of broads sure, but that's it really. The game is far from woke and unless there's a massive portion of the game Im somehow missing, there is no "agenda". The idea that there's some sort of subversive woke agenda in kcd2 is hilariously retarded tbh.

World is plagued by economic chaos, war.

Price of food, living, medicine, schooling, travel, rent, insurance, bills is batshit insane, before you ever get to stuff like videogames, movies, luxury items.

Yet people including billionaires and politicians instead want a focus on gender being removed across society as their main goal in life, their top priority over everything else, and now you have school children getting life ruining surgery/Nazi-esque experimentation behind their parents backs often with aid of school, local officals, women across multiple sports getting brutalized by males with far more bone and muscle mass posing as women and getting blackmailed/threatened or sanctioned for refusing to compete and be beaten.

I don't get it, and I honestly never want to get it.

The way I explain it to normies is this:

The globalists (illuminati, Zionist Jews, Bilderberg Group, Bohemian Grove, take your pick) want to destroy the individual and the family units. Everyone on the electrical grid (thus easily controlled - one switch and there goes their home and vehicle), eating bugs (insert soylent green mass produced bs food here), consuming mindless drivel, and not standing up for anything or believing in anything but the State.

The best way to do this is eliminate ethnicity and identity (when we are everything we are nothing). The more you dilute what God is, what a man and woman are, etc... the more easily you can control and shape people's frame of mind and views. Look at Communist China. They didn't bite the whole identity politics thing, but they didn't need to. The State just crushed everyone under their heel until obedient. We can't do that here, so we need to find more subtle and divisive ways to break down societal structures and standards.

Think of your average consumer NPC... if they were a traditionally-minded person with a strong ethnic, family, and religious background, they would be FAR less likely to be swayed by mainstream media or influencers.

Anyone know if it's still Jeremy Soule's music?

I'm passing for now but only because I have games I'm committed to finishing, and I also got the itch to jump back into Skyrim PSVR. Oblivion is gonna have to wait.

Music sounded the same and as great as ever in the presentation earlier. I looked at the purchase price as 80% for the music and the remaining 20% for everything else 🤣

What did they update with the combat? Seems the same to me.

Avowed spoiled me on the combat. This feels better than the original but it's still not great

How are performance and the visuals? UE5 traumatized me with the traversal stutter. Seems like Lumen is used here, how does this compare to Avowed for example?

Why not just play a modded version of the original?

I think I'd pay like $30 max for something like this tbh

Will wait

I'm personally waiting for Skyblivion. This always seemed like a soulless cash grab to try and end Skyblivion.

I've always defended the idea of playing everything vanilla tbh. Older graphics and gameplay systems are charming.

It feels like messing with someone's art yknow?

Updated graphics and UI are sorta whatever to me

Any more info on how so?

It's less restrictive. You get 12 points to freely distribute among any 3 attributes. +1 luck costs four points, everything else costs one point. Perks seem to be moved around (dodge unlocks at 25, used to be 50 I think).
The result is that you can Skyrim it up while still being Oblivion flavoured.

Just got back from helping my armwrestling coach cut and stack wood after a tornado took down over a dozen trees in his yard, several falling on his house and nearly took his house as well. You could see the path the tornado took through the woods, miles long, about 100 feet from his house, with full sized tree after tree just ripped out and laid down like dominoes. They were insanely lucky. Anyway, exhausted but came home to this!!!! Extremely excited for this. One of my favorite games of all time and I have the rest of the day to rest and dig in again!

Performance is pretty good for me. 110-120 fps in the dungeons and like and like 90-100 in the open workd with FG on and it feels great. I haven't experienced a lot of yet but a lot of people on Era are complaining about traversal stutters.

Running ultra with high RT (lumen), DLSS quality, getting about 55-70 fps in open world and about 100 in dungeons. I'll likely drop RT to medium to stay above 60.

WHen the game drops below 60 it's actually really hard to tell.

Avowed was one where I could immediately feel the game was not as responsive when it dropped below 60. Much better here in Oblivion.

There is some traversal stutter in the open world. But if you capped the frame rate I doubt it would be nearly as noticeable.

So is Skyblivion still happening??

Yes

Yes

I got 120+ once I dropped from 4k to 1440p, everything else maxed out, DLSS balanced, still looks fantastic.

I got a warm fuzzy feeling booting this game up. I didn't have time to try it out yesterday.

I don't think I can play the game proper right now, but I do want to have a look at the beginning of the game to get a sense of the difference.

I've gone with a Thornmarsh Argonian as I have done an Elf and Redguard play through on the 360 and PC versions back in the day. I have to say my Argonian looks pretty badass. I probably just forgot, but it was good to design the growths on the Argonian build.

The game visuals are on a different dimension compared to the original. And compared to the original game heavily modded to its best ability around the first few years of the games launch.

This is going to be a very special play through when I get around to it in a few weeks time.

See, I'd love for Morrowind to have this sort of overhaul but I fear it's such a monumental task that Bethesda simply won't sanction it. I also think they'd absolutely fuck up what makes Morrowind special by watering down systems and resorting to the same jankslop combat that rears its head in both Oblivion and Skyrim.

Oblivion remaster looking very pretty, though I did get a chuckle out of the Bethesda-released 20 minute trailer where every piece of video about the OG release was presented in like 360p, have to make those remastered UE5 visuals seem out of this world!
