Thread: Switch 2 announced! (NatetheHate: Nintendo Switch 2 will be announced on Thursday, January 16)
Hype Thread
Longer lead time between the announcement and the direct than I would have thought. Seems like a June launch? Doubt they'd be doing all this stuff in April/May and then hold it back until Q4.

well, quit shoving them up your ass.

Too much.

Odyssey came out over seven years ago. If they don't have one at launch, they'll have one before 2025 is over.

Agreed that if they are making one, it will be close to launch.

Could see them doing a new version of Mario Wonder with enhancements at launch

If Mario Kart 9 has no Tour tracks, slightly less items on the courses then I'll be glad. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has some very difficult tracks. Some are just poorly designed. Others call for near perfect touch of when to gas and break basically perfect controls on the driver's part. Some turns never made sense tbh. Some turns just call for a major dip in speed and usage in breaks which is kind of fucking stupid if you ask me. Someone with some luck holding onto a mushroom can fuck up the player rightfully slowing down to finish the lap? That's just poor game design. There's no way that MK9 isn't greater than MK8 DLX imo

I would have said the same thing before, but Pikmin 4 really burned me out on the formula.
I liked Pikmin 4 a considerable amount, good memories playing it. It was nice to finish a mission, then come back to camp and have a meeting plus end of day review with the crew. I like that music that plays during those talks too, very relaxing. But Pikmin 4 did get a tad bit boring as the game went on; too formulaic for my taste. And even though I did like those reports where everyone would put their heads together before calling it a day, there was only about 60-75 of those reports, which repeated themselves after they were all used up. Kind of kills the sense of adventure for those of us who decided to take more time to do everything and experience the environments in full. One last thing, I swear only used those pink flying Pikmin for like 1/15th of the game. They were introduced so late

At some point either on Switch or Switch2 I need to revisit Odyssey as it felt like such a horribly boring collection game where after going through tedious efforts to collect things the reward felt flat, uninspiring, and more work than fun. Outfits for Mario is a fun idea but so many various 'collection' chores felt like they took the Mario 64 model x 10 without recognizing the Mario 64 model was perfectly fine and would still be to this day.

They could just give me new castles in the format of Mario 64 and I'd be day one for the rest of my life. Nintendo will never make it that easy on themselves because they're Nintendo.

I think with Odyssey one of the biggest issues is that you don't really get challenging content until you have basically completed the main game and you are going back to revisit the worlds.

I get that it's a balancing act and that they want absolutely anyone to be able to progress through the game but I would like to see them have the alternate boss fights and difficult challenges as optional content that is there from the very start.

Odyssey is a cracking game though.

Pikmin 4 a really excellent game too @Franky Family

Very well polished games that I don't think the other two are really offering. Sony took a long time to bring Astrobot to the table and people went crazy for it.

Its always going to be the games that matter most.

I'd like to see Mario Kart 9 offer up something more and better that's gameplay related rather than just be MK8 but with better graphics.

There's plenty wrong with Super Mario Odyssey, but it's a very well rounded and kind of charming game. You would think it would be substantial and epic given the ground Mario and Cappy cover in that game. But it's more light and casual fun. I played the game wrong, in my mind. I rushed through it because there were no challenging moons like 85% of the time. But Odyssey is what I would describe as the best time-killer adventure of all time. You could start that game one day and chip away at it for a year or two if you took your time and wanted to savor it. The story is minimal but it's kind of a nice and endearing theme that I enjoyed a decent bit to set the tone for every place that Mario and the others went. Honestly the game isn't even in my top five Mario platformers and it might not even be in my top seven but I would prefer to see a sequel to it more than I'd like to see Super Mario Galaxy 3. I believe the sequel to Super Mario Odyssey has the most potential of any game if they just tighten up the gameplay and say no to any filler. Have the same expansive adventure, but make it count this time with every moon. So that it all adds up to something greater than what the first did. They were seriously just handing moons out like candy sixty percent of that game or more

Is there a strong chance that the Switch 2 does not launch with a 3D Mario game, and only Mario Kart 9?

Probably not. I'd guess Mario Kart 9 + Metroid P4 + something "new" (C censor game) for launch is pretty solid from their POV. New Mario for Christmas 2025.

I'm really curious about a Splatoon 4 release as a lot of hardware will be allocated to Japan for that. Launch seems crazy (unless that's why they're building up supply), but I'd predict around Golden Week.

What I find a bit lame is how that thing looks like the most unNintendoish product they ever created...

One could easily mistake it for one of those PC-Switch-Clone-Handhelds the original spawned.

You've only seen one color. It's an evolution of the black Switch and the blue/red Switch. I thought it screams Nintendo Switch successor. I guess I just really like it. It looks really good, imo.

As a ROG Ally owner, I wish Asus had gone this route as opposed to the LED's around the joysticks that burn holes in your eyes after a while. Really don't dig the LED's in the controller thing. lol

oh rly? not in today's tomorrow's economy. i agree it should be no more than 399 with a price drop to 199 or less for the original, but somehow i doubt it.

can't say i care though. not a poor.

Higher than $399 will hurt them badly with the "impulse or gift buy for the kids" market which is the majority of the market. Early adopters will be in regardless but it's not like there'll be a price drop any time soon based on recent history. $499 Christmas 2025 may not go so well for them.

I'm really expecting them to find their $399.99 sweet spot in the USA. They may charge 449.99 though. I won't be shocked, but I do think they want $399.99 because that's a price they have been really successful at. If they could sell an even weaker device at 299.99 I think they would do it, but the market doesn't want that anymore.

i don't know if the kids want one as much these days...
