Thread: Quitting smoking sucks donkey dick
Get yourself a vape ASAP.

Helped me quit smoking after 5 years of trying, it was the best decision I ever made regarding my health.

Is it perfect? No. But I don't get breathless doing light exercise and I sleep much, much better than I ever did when I was on the fags.

Start with a high nicotine count from the off 18mg and gradually cut it down each month. I'm down to 1.5mg now, about to make the plunge into nicotine-less vaping.

It's cheaper and doesn't smell. The flavours are great. And it's 95%* safer than smoking cigarettes. The best part is, the thought of even going near a cigarette now revolts me.

*According to a long-term study by Public Health England. It's not without its risks, you're still putting shit in your body, but the chemicals are not as poisonous and there is no tar. I'm still worried about the long term implications, but it cannot possibly be any worse than cigarettes. I'll take it.

DPAD I know I am going to want to smoke a cigarette.

Arg why did I start smoking. The patch does not much, the gum sort of helps.

Fucken sucks balls. Will be worth it, but failure feels like its right around the corner. Don't judge me if I break.
I used to smoke daily. Kool 100's... Then I went on Wellbutrin for my anxiety/depression, that medicine literally killed my cravings for cigarettes. No joke. Like really weird shit, its a known 'side effect' of the meds.
Now I still vape, but no longer "smoke". Now when I get a craving at home the best I can do is have some carrot sticks and ranch or blue cheese. Kinda works.

Its just hard getting over the habit, and Working from home makes it worse because I can go for a smoke break anytime I want. Just gotta power through it. Already broke and had 1 today, but usually I would have smoke like 10 by this time so improvement I guess.

Yeah man, keep it up. Identify your triggers that make you want to smoke and figure out a way to distract yourself somehow. For me its when im driving my car, I CRAVE a smoke so bad. So I make sure to have my vape on hand.

I added a cigarette to my avatar. I may or may not sneak the occasional cig here and there....

But I'm way down from what my vaping/smoking levels were before my lung collapsed last year

I am smoke free for 13 months now after smoking a pack a day for 26 years.

Patch worked for me.

Patch Pro tips:

pushing on patch releases more nicotine into your blood :)

do NOT buy generic no name pharmacy patches. Buy Nicoderm. While nicotine dosages are the same, there is a major difference in the patches quality themselves — Glue, absorption rate. Cheap patches can call off, body absorbs too much nicotine or not absorb nicotine properly. It makes a huge difference when the supply of nicotine into the blood stream is steady.

sleeping with patch on results in super vivid dreams

if you have smoked many years stay on patch 1 for at least 2 months before moving to step 2.

I just got back from vacation and smoked about a pack and a half over two nights.

I only smoke when I'm drinking with my friend who I hang out with once every couple months.

Btw, good to see you again, Crypto.

Anyone know if year old patches are still good?

I have some left over from a failed attempt and wondering if I can still use em. I have fresh ones too.

I read around and some say yes, while others say its expired better not.

Okay update.

Haven't quit, but super cut down. Today I had 1 cigarette. Think its going to be my last as I finished the pack I bought on Monday.

See if I can make it.

So far patch and gum have been working pretty good. Still get the habit but not so much the cravings.

Pro-Tip read the instructions. Learnt you can keep it on for 24 hours, while showering, and not to put it in the same place. And the gum you gotta chew for like 30 mins in a different way.

The gum although effective makes me feel quite ill for a period after, ever with slow soft chewing. Turned me off them, did you feel similar?

Never got that side effect.

First time I chewed it like normal gum LOL.

Only thing for me is I was never a big gum guy so sometimes I get gaggy with it in my mouth after a few mins. They recommend chewing it for 30 mins but I usually go 15 mins or so.

It is possible you were having a nicotine overload, it does mention that some of the side effects are nauseau if you have an overload. Patch + Gum? Did you also smoke a few cigs while doing gum+patch?

Today looking like might be my actual first day of not smoking at all. Cut down to 1 yesterday and 2 the day before. finished my last smoke of a pack I bought on Monday (which is the longest a pack has lasted me since I started) and for now no plans to buy another one.

Just waiting for the eventual relapse and hopefully can get back on the wagon if it happens.

If may manage to stay off them completely, why trade in lung cancer for gum cancer?
True, but quitting that afterwards, is a none issue. Nicotine dependency is not that severe, the feel of smoke is way bigger problem.

Also gum cancer, this is not American snus, which is roasted, this swedish one, which is treated in steam.

I quit a long time ago when a pack of cigarettes didn't cost too much. Just looking at the price of them now would be enough to make me instantly quit

A month is good. I am so glad I only ever got to like a half pack per day as my average. I'd smoke multiple packs over a weekend if drinking and partying with friends but a half pack was my normal.

I smoked Newports from a hard pack, way back before a ban on menthols were even a twinkle in Biden's not yet demented eye.

I quit about 12 years or so ago.

I quit a while back because last year of my smoking I would just obssessively think about lung cancer every time I lit up and eventually the anxiety got to me and I could not smoke any more.

The only thing that sucks worst that quiting smoking is dying from smoking. You got this @cryptoadam . I smoked for 16 years. I just quit one day and was so pissed off for about 22 days then it was easier.

never smoked, was just one of those things i knew to avoid
Yeah me too. My father who was a heavy smoker died in the end of copd. He was a perfect example for me never to start with it. Back when I was young he was coughing so hard in the middle of night that he woke me up. That's the reason I never started. My brother though.. same as my father

Still think about smoking a cig on the daily but haven't had one since April 3rd.

Just keep at it, you're over the worst. Soon you won't think about cigarettes at all anymore, but some short-burst cravings might set. Try to ignore them, they don't last long. Replace your cigs with something pleasant, like food. Sure, you might gain a few pounds, but being smoke-free is worth it and you can always work those off later on.

Doing some cardio helps immensely with the cravings and whatever you do, don't pick up vaping. You need to get rid of the behavioral habit as well as the corporal nicotine addiction. Doing something similar to smoking will only make it harder to get rid of that habit.

Cold turkey or bust! Everything else is endlessly prolonged misery.
